That's fascinating but not surprising othh. I suspect most people vote only once or twice at most and so leave till they have all the info they need to make an informed choice.
Screw just confirms Golden Rule No 2 "There are no insiders wading in on BF". So much for all the 1D/Beccy "inside" info ![]() |

Exactly GB - today Rebecca drifted like a barge, all the way out to 9.whatever...when in actual fact between shows she was closing the gap on Matt and pulling clear of OD. Wonder how many laid Rebecca/backed OD this afternoon because they thought someone knew something?
Great work OTHH. |
|
By:
Sorry, not necessarily closing/pulling away since we dont have pre-Sunday show stats...but you get my drift. Comfortably in 2nd and not a million miles from Matt.

Percentage wise it closed alot from lastnight..
At the first freeze: Matt 60.8% Rebecca 39.2% to Matt 53.6% Rebecca 46.4% |

Oh and brilliant maths othh...no idea how you work it out but I'm cutting and pasting your post till next year [;)]

one last thing. We learned a couple of years ago that half the votes for the series were cast in the final. If that's true this year, around 7.7m votes came in this weekend, meaning Matt's lead over Rebecca was 556,000 in the end.

cheers othh, fantastic stuff

And with that, it's time for a glass of red (which is better than a screen full of red any day of the week).
As ever, well done to the winners, tough luck to the rest, and I'll no doubt see you around here next year sometime. All the best - and may all your Christmases be green. OTHH |

Smashing stuff, well said. Lou x |

There were a few bits of information re the votes..I posted them on here somewhere. One was that £8m gets spent on calls in the final which would be about 16m votes (seems high) but something else I read might have contradicted this.

I'm proud that i stuck by my initial Matt / Reb bets throughout and didn't lay a penny, even when One D were doing my nut and making me think twice. It deffo pays to stick by your instincts and to listen to certain specials experts on here ![]() |

big vote transference from Cher to Rebecca.
Cheryl having two acts was a major handicap for Rebecca imo. The OD vote split equally. |
|
By:
Twitter is very useful for that "or" thing to try to spot where transference will take place. fll probably factors this in already.
|
|
By:
We can agree there are no insiders betting, knowing how the polling was going, BUT there were people in the know regarding the Mary/Cher sing-off, as we all pretty much guessed Cher would be bottom yet Mary's price for elimination kept shortening and shortening.

excellent work as ever OTHH, much appreciated as always

This is borne out by the experience in our house last night.
The phone lines for Rebecca were jammed rock solid from the moment she sang 'Sweet Dreams' to the first vote freeze. You simply couldn't get through. The same wasn't true for the other acts (I checked). I thought that she knocked it out of the park last night with both songs - but it was too late to have the necessary impact. The damage was done on Saturday night, with a weak opener and a poor duet. Definitely right to keep both Matt and Rebecca on side in the outrights and forecasts. Could (and probably should) have been even closer than it was. Anecdotally the people I have spoken to all thought that Rebecca performed best last night. Rebecca backers can take heart from the fact that she finally showed her true potential, albeit at the eleventh hour. Even in our household (where Matt was my biggest green by far) we all ultimately wanted Rebecca to win. |

There were no contenders this year to capture the floating voters. There were no act that could go from 'i'm not sure I like this act' to 'this act is actually pretty good'. Yes you could say Wagner but again there were just as much haters.
All the acts were either you like or dislike, no middle ground. Cardle played it safe. He didn't give anything to allow his likers to suddenly reverse back to vote another. He was the best of a lot of bad bunch, no other option. Rebecca certainly had some momentum but it was just too slow. Her reputation for stillness may have affected that rise. Next year I hope they get rid of all those novelty or no hoper acts. Those everyone knows has no chance. But I reckon they will never do that becasue the show need those act to generate the entertainment factor. Hence the competition will really be contested amongst 2-3 acts. |

Amazing, today most people I speak to wanted Rebecca to win. Why didn't she?
The Matt voters more committed perhaps |

How many people do you speak to in a day GB? You sound like a roving reporter.

I think it was a classic case of supporting the underdog - but ultimately she had too much ground to make up and made her run too late...
To take a prophetic line from a thread last week, maybe Rebecca was Zenyatta after all! |

if Rebecca could have danced like Zenyatta then it might have been a different story

In my office today it was the same GB - any X Factor chat revolved around people realising they loved Rebecca a little too late.
Of course my contribution to the convo was "Oh that was last night was it? I dont watch that sh*te" ![]() |

Yep, she came with a real strong late run after being quiet early on (well down in 5th place in week 4). A definite 'grower' with the voters - another furlong (or even just one more belting ballad!) and she would've taken Matt on the line. |

Lads, any idea will the X Factor section of the forum remain up for a while?
Some cracking info to pull together and make use of in future. Just don't have the time for a few days. The BB11 one is up an age but probably for prosterity reasons. |
