"I don't want to miss a thing"? Plain

Surely not, Treyc did it 3 weeks back. If she does do it then she's in trouble.

Matt could be good.

1D... well I'm sure the backing tracks will be ok

Wagner - there are no words..... Plain

Don't like Matt's that much to be honest.  Rebecca ............. two classics.
Report stringerbell November 23, 2010 6:24 PM GMT

If these songs selections are true....MATT WILL BE TRADING AT EVENS on Saturday evening!

BOTH SONGS ARE PERFECT FOR HIM

Rebecca will murder BOTW
Cher has a disaster looming will Numb and My Gen
and OD will be totally cheesy!

Katie will be 2nd best on the evening!
Report five leaves left November 23, 2010 7:12 PM GMT
BOTW would be great for Rebecca although clearly the list is wrong as Treyc has already sung her 2nd song.
Report stableboy November 23, 2010 7:15 PM GMT
and there I was already crowning Matt "King of X Factor"!  LOL
Report LOU MACARIS TARTAN B November 23, 2010 7:28 PM GMT
Suits me if those are wrong.  Didn't overly fancy Matt's songs at all.
Report George Bailey November 23, 2010 7:32 PM GMT
If true (which I doubt) I think Matt's are too samey to each other. Little opportunity for subtlety and variety (if subtlety isn't a contradiction in terms on XF).

Rebecca needs to start taking chances and showing us what she can do. Her youtube stuff shows she can do the high energy stuff just fine.
Report LOU MACARIS TARTAN B November 23, 2010 7:36 PM GMT
George

If Rebecca does them I think they are two big standout songs but once again she'll just stand at the mic' and knock out two more ballads to go with her other 7.  A change would be nice for all I think you'd agree.
Report squares November 23, 2010 7:43 PM GMT
According to Mary on Irish radio the theme is "rock" - whatever that means as I believe Lloyd had a Katie Perry track during "rock week" last year.

Although bear in mind that last week on Irish radio Mary said they were having two weeks of double eliminations.

The only confirmed song seems to be from Mary - U2's All I Want Is You.

Friedman on XtraF said they will be doing one uptempo track and one rock ballad.
Report squares November 23, 2010 7:59 PM GMT
Matt's pal, who has given clues in the past, claims one of Matt's songs is from the film Casino.

Loads of tracks in it, but as XF tends to stick to classics assume it could be
(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction
Gimme Shelter
Go Your Own Way
House of the Rising Sun

or ballads Nights in White Satin, Without You.

In view of various press stories "Love Is The Drug" wouldn't seem like the brightest idea Plain
Report George Bailey November 23, 2010 8:02 PM GMT
Squares Cowell is like the Queen of Hearts in Alice in Wonderland. "Theme" means what he ssysa it means and some of the definitions have been stretched to meaningless this series.

I think freidman is right and that there will be a ballad and a rocker hence why I think Matts's purported songs don't compute.

Lou IF those are Beccy's songs then she can't just stand there and sing the Aerosmith song. She has to come out of her comfort zone.

It was said of Gerald Ford (I think) that he couldn't chew gum and faart at the same time. Rebecca needs to show she can move and sing simultaneously (and by move I'm not talking gymnastics; a bit of arm/body movement will do).
Report stringerbell November 23, 2010 8:05 PM GMT
nights in white satin could be epic
Report George Bailey November 23, 2010 8:09 PM GMT
Gimme Shelter would be awesome for Beccy (to her friends [;)]) given her you tube songs. Whether it would appeal to middle england is another matter but as my all time fav stones track it sure would get my vote.

the songs I listed from Casino are what I think could be possibles for Matt, if indeed one of his songs is from that film.
Report George Bailey November 23, 2010 8:32 PM GMT
Yes I know Squares just saying I think it would be a corker for Beccy (I'd posted that thought days ago). FLL suggested ride on time which is similar in that they both have in your face female vocal elements. She needs to blow us away and she has the tools to do it.

Could they make Rebecca any more bland?!  I hate both of those songs - although I'll be surprised if Aerosmith makes another appearance after Treyc.

As for 1D Staying Alive...?!  Rock?!  Have I missed something?!  Like Simon & Garfunkel, surely some mistake?!

Mary singing U2 could actually work - great choice, much as it irks me to say it.

Wagner doing Creep will be priceless.  "What the hell am I doing here?!  I don't belong here!"  Just hilarious.

But it's Matt that I think has been given the trump cards and will shorten this week...
Report Journeyman November 24, 2010 5:39 PM GMT
I was a bit worried about Cher having to do a slow rock number but Numb is a great choice for her.
Report LOU MACARIS TARTAN B November 24, 2010 5:40 PM GMT
Dizzy

Tthese are only mainly early guesses so I wouldn't read too much into the fact these will actually be the songs come Saturday.
Report Dizzy42 November 24, 2010 5:41 PM GMT
Numb is a fantastic choice if she sings the Jamelia version.  But don't you think these are a little bit too niche and unlikely to appeal to her target audience?

Still think she'll get the bounce, but they are not obvious songs for Cher.
Report squares November 24, 2010 5:45 PM GMT
The tracks at the start of the thread were from someone messing about on FB.  They're about as much use as Lou's weekly "selections".

So far all we know.

Mary - All I Want is You (U2) and Brass in Pocket (The Pretenders)
Wagner - Creep (Radiohead)

and one of Matt's songs is from the film Casino.

Initial thoughts - car crash for Mary.
Report Journeyman November 24, 2010 5:50 PM GMT
Well I've been worried about that ever since hearing the theme Dizzy.
The last thing she needed after the 'Imagine' disaster was another dodgy ballad to alienate her hardcore fanbase. But Numb has lots of potential for her putting her own 'bits' into it.

My Generation (if that  happens) is pretty bold and would only work if she seriously messes with it and gives it a radical reworking. She needs to get bold and take risks and I think she will.
Report LOU MACARIS TARTAN B November 24, 2010 5:51 PM GMT
Dizzy

'Numb' I've just played on youtube to check as sometimes I think I don't know the song but perhaps recognise it when I play it but once again never ever heard of 'Numb'
Report Dizzy42 November 24, 2010 5:56 PM GMT
It's a bit specialist, I guess - originally a crossover hit for Linkin Park, but a more tender version was done by Jamelia in her cover for Radio One's Live Lounge...

Squares is probably right though and this could be a complete red herring anyway.
Report Journeyman November 24, 2010 5:57 PM GMT
Also if there's one group to cover if you're wanting to put rap into an established rock anthem with minimal old school criticism, it would be Linkin Park.

So hopefully Numb is a goer.

Still don't understand doing a song that perhaps half the voters for arguememnts sake don't know?
Report Dizzy42 November 24, 2010 6:01 PM GMT
Here's the listing for the Casino soundtrack...  No obvious choices here for Matt apart from Satisfaction, which would work - although why not just say it's a Stones number?!

They're the songs that stood out for me...

Can't see Nights in White Satin or House of the Rising Sun working - classics of course, but both would be a bit of a dirge for a Saturday night.

Can't see Matt doing Hoochie Coochie Man or Fa Fa Fa Fa Fa Fa Fa Fa Fa (Sad Song)

So the two Stones tracks would seem the most sensible selections.
Report Journeyman November 24, 2010 6:08 PM GMT
Lou, everyone knew Imagine and she was crucified for doing it!

Numb is quite well known, perhaps not to an older audience, which is maybe the best combination for her as she simply has to get back to putting her unique stamp on things but without being afraid to 'violate a classic'.

She'd be clever to introduce it as Dizzy suggests as the Jamelia version not necessarily because that version suits her better but because it would let her do her own thing.
Report LOU MACARIS TARTAN B November 24, 2010 6:08 PM GMT
Dizzy

i don't know ... both great songs I think too.  Throw in the Harry Nilsson song from the erly seventies.  All goodies imo.
Report squares November 24, 2010 6:10 PM GMT
but if they are doing two rock songs - one uptempo and one rock ballad, something like Nights in White Satin for example could fit rock ballad.

Assume the U2 track is Mary's rock ballad and that is an utter dirge.
Report Dizzy42 November 24, 2010 6:12 PM GMT
That's true.  Forgot one had to be a ballad...
Report squares November 24, 2010 6:12 PM GMT
House of the Rising Sun and Gimme Shelter were both used on the last series of AI, and once SCowell latches on to a track it tends to get done to death.

Absolutely.  Noticed that pattern many times before!
