Tthese are only mainly early guesses so I wouldn't read too much into the fact these will actually be the songs come Saturday. |

Numb is a fantastic choice if she sings the Jamelia version. But don't you think these are a little bit too niche and unlikely to appeal to her target audience?
Still think she'll get the bounce, but they are not obvious songs for Cher. |

The tracks at the start of the thread were from someone messing about on FB. They're about as much use as Lou's weekly "selections".
So far all we know. Mary - All I Want is You (U2) and Brass in Pocket (The Pretenders) Wagner - Creep (Radiohead) and one of Matt's songs is from the film Casino. Initial thoughts - car crash for Mary. |

Well I've been worried about that ever since hearing the theme Dizzy.
The last thing she needed after the 'Imagine' disaster was another dodgy ballad to alienate her hardcore fanbase. But Numb has lots of potential for her putting her own 'bits' into it. My Generation (if that happens) is pretty bold and would only work if she seriously messes with it and gives it a radical reworking. She needs to get bold and take risks and I think she will. |

'Numb' I've just played on youtube to check as sometimes I think I don't know the song but perhaps recognise it when I play it but once again never ever heard of 'Numb' |

It's a bit specialist, I guess - originally a crossover hit for Linkin Park, but a more tender version was done by Jamelia in her cover for Radio One's Live Lounge...
Squares is probably right though and this could be a complete red herring anyway. |

By:
Also if there's one group to cover if you're wanting to put rap into an established rock anthem with minimal old school criticism, it would be Linkin Park.
So hopefully Numb is a goer. |

Still don't understand doing a song that perhaps half the voters for arguememnts sake don't know? |

Here's the listing for the Casino soundtrack... No obvious choices here for Matt apart from Satisfaction, which would work - although why not just say it's a Stones number?!

Matt's pal, who has given clues in the past, claims one of Matt's songs is from the film Casino. Loads of tracks in it, but as XF tends to stick to classics assume it could be (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction Gimme Shelter Go Your Own Way House of the Rising Sun or ballads Nights in White Satin, Without You. In view of various press stories "Love Is The Drug" wouldn't seem like the brightest idea |

They're the songs that stood out for me...
Can't see Nights in White Satin or House of the Rising Sun working - classics of course, but both would be a bit of a dirge for a Saturday night. Can't see Matt doing Hoochie Coochie Man or Fa Fa Fa Fa Fa Fa Fa Fa Fa (Sad Song) So the two Stones tracks would seem the most sensible selections. |

Lou, everyone knew Imagine and she was crucified for doing it!
Numb is quite well known, perhaps not to an older audience, which is maybe the best combination for her as she simply has to get back to putting her unique stamp on things but without being afraid to 'violate a classic'. She'd be clever to introduce it as Dizzy suggests as the Jamelia version not necessarily because that version suits her better but because it would let her do her own thing. |

i don't know ... both great songs I think too. Throw in the Harry Nilsson song from the erly seventies. All goodies imo. |
|
By:
but if they are doing two rock songs - one uptempo and one rock ballad, something like Nights in White Satin for example could fit rock ballad.
Assume the U2 track is Mary's rock ballad and that is an utter dirge. |
|
By:
That's true. Forgot one had to be a ballad...

House of the Rising Sun and Gimme Shelter were both used on the last series of AI, and once SCowell latches on to a track it tends to get done to death.

By:
Absolutely. Noticed that pattern many times before!

i think the moody blues and the animals are more likely options, but i thought this list was outed as a hoax
|

This thread needs to be dropped.
The list at the top was a hoax on FB. Matt's pal who gives a few clues each week said one of Matt's songs is from Casino. I assume that is correct. |

nick, where was the thread where you were asking people what they were into? I was going to reply.

I reckon Matt could do a good cover of anything by Seven Summers
