Who would have thought it Plain

Simon Cowell knows the voting percentages each week on The X Factor and acts accordingly, it has been claimed.

The identity of the bottom two - and in the case of Deadlock the least popular act - is the only information made public during the programme. Full voting breakdowns are only published after the final show.

However, an alleged insider has told Heat magazine that Cowell is fully aware of the details of each weekly vote and alters his own actions as a judge, mentor and showrunner accordingly.

The source said: "Simon knows which contestants get the most votes each week, and some of them bring in a serious amount of financial revenue through phone votes.

"Viewers are encouraged to vote for certain acts, even when they sometimes perform below par. Contestants like Cher [Lloyd], for instance, make the show a lot of money, as she has an army of young fans who can be relied on to get their parents to vote for her every single week."

Regarding voting figures, they continued: "[Cowell] couldn't stand not to know. Sometimes he shares them with Louis [Walsh] and Cheryl [Cole], but hardly ever with Dannii [Minogue]... Because Simon's privy to the percentages of votes, he knows who is the most popular.

"Things can be unpredictable, so no-one can 100% tell who will make the finals, but he has a very clear idea every year about who is likely to make the finals, because of voting panels. That's what often makes Simon say things like, 'You're the dark horse', or 'You're the one to watch'."

A representative from SyCo was unavailable for comment on the claims.

I'd be surprised if he didn't know as he's a control freak by nature. That said I do recall at least once what I thought was a show of genuine surprise on his face at a result. Bit about Louis being in on it sometimes also computes as he has thrown some giveaways in over the years I think.

Bit that makes me laugh is reference to young fans getting their parents to vote. Very Blue Peter 1960s. Don't from birth these days all have mobile phones on constant redial? I thought the mums vote countered the young vote?

Impossible imo - would destroy the credibility of the show.

even more unbelievable Shocked

Producers of The X Factor have rejected any suggestion that Simon Cowell is aware of the voting figures on the reality talent show and have instructed media lawyers to file a formal complaint against a magazine through the Press Complaints Commission.

It was suggested in the weekly glossy that Cowell is given the full breakdown of the public vote each week and alters his actions accordingly.

Insiders said: "These allegations are completely and utterly untrue. Total lies. Simon doesn't and has never known voting figures and percentages until they are released after the final.

"There are a ridiculous number of conspiracy theories and everyone has had enough of them - they are unfounded. The show is 100% fair."

A representative from Syco tonight confirmed that formal action was proceeding through media lawyers Carter Ruck.

What do you think though of the reaction and sheer delight on Cowell's face, punching the air even when ONE D get called through to the next round?  I honestly don't think he knows the result and is waiting there fingers crossed as we all are to hear our act have gone through.  I really do.  He must be a terriffic actor if he already knows because he looks absolutely thrilled and delighted.

Exactly.  I really don't think he does.  I think it's a public voting competition and he's waiting for the results, hoping his act goes through as are all of us at home who have our favourites or have backed someone to win it.

...is completely correct. All his lawyers are doing is filing a complaint.

This year and last there are too many things that would not make sense if Cowell didn't know the results before their announcement.

There's no legal problem with him being told, it's a multi-million pound business, do you really think he leaves things that he can easily control to chance?

Whatever the truth, it'll never go to court and therefore never come out...  We'll never know for sure, we can only suspect!

from OTHH's thread on Sunday night:

on Xtra Factor tonight, talking about the results, Cowell said "there were plenty of surprises tonight, not just in the bottom two". Anyone want to guess what he meant? Matt being in fourth place? Cher 0.1% above the B2? Wagner outpolling Rebecca?
I'll stop now.

Surely nobody is doubting that its the Simon Cowell show in every way. Just watch the way the judges constantly look to Simon for approval. Especailly Louie and Cheryl. Especailly when they are being the scripted naughty boy or girl.

I think Simon takes a lot of advice from producers and other backroom people only on the basis that they are fired if they give bad advice. Or get caught doing what Simon has told em that but ends up looking bad.

Saturday afternoon wrestling was less fixed.

I do not however believe they dare actually interfere with the vote thats why the judges the comments, the editing , the media and the information on voting figures are so tightly controlled.

How do I know Simon knows the figures? How are you going to stop him?

Do I think Simon is genuinely delighted when the Boys go through. Yes. Is it a great way of encouraging the 12 year old girls to vote even more? Its one of the best. Does he know in advance. of course.

Because we'd see every week who's winning and place bets on the leader, lay the ones at the bottom.  Let's say for arguememnts sake you knew mary was winning the vote every week.  Who would you go and back?

Simon says that they don't release the figures straight away so as to protect the integrity of the show.  He also says he doesn't see the voting figures himself and that it really is a singing competition.
