THE X Factor was plunged into farce when judge Cheryl Cole mimed parts of her new hit on the show.

It emerged today that Cheryl demanded that she be allowed to mime -- while she sang some parts of her new song live, the more difficult bits were prerecorded, much to the astonishment of television audiences across Ireland and Britain.

Revealed

Cole has been administering frank and sometimes critical assessments of the contestants' live performances but then failed to deliver her own.

After initially denying that she had mimed the song, Promise This, show insiders revealed that she had.

Her performance, which involved a hot and heavy dance routine, was recorded in front of the studio audience an hour before the live show, although TV viewers were not made aware of this.

Fans who were keeping a close eye on the star's first performance since her battle with malaria took to the internet to say that they didn't believe the Girl's Aloud singer was performing live.

The 27-year-old was making her first public performance in three months after contracting malaria.

She revealed in a television interview with Piers Morgan on Saturday night how she had prepared a will during her battle with the illness after medics feared for her life.

Impractical

The decision was made to prerecord Cheryl's routine after X Factor chiefs claimed that it would have been impractical for her to sing and carry out her judging duties during the one-hour live show.

Reality TV shows including Strictly Come Dancing sometimes take the decision to prerecord performances to accommodate their stars' schedules.

Presumably SCD don't allow their contestants to have as many takes as they like until they are happy with the performance?

By the way Cheryl it doesn't matter as nobody was actually listening...now watching was another matter.
