has it ever happened that someone has been favorite from start to finish and gone on and won ?

can he really keep this up for another 8 weeks ?

he is genuinely head and shoulders above the others so its him and one direction in the final
Pause Switch to Standard View could cardle have peaked too soon ??

I've backed him.  Wouldn't quite say he was 'head and shoulders above the others' but don't see why he can't keep it up.  He's obviously a good singer so why should that change.  Suddenly sings awfully one week?  I don't think so.

Don't think a favourite has ever lead from start to finish before but it will have to happen one day so who knows?

I wasn't around in 'Shayne's' year.  I started off when Leona won it.

And without wanting to sound pedantic, Aiden was nearly half a point shorter than him two weeks ago for several days.
Report LOU MACARIS TARTAN B October 25, 2010 3:17 PM BST

But pretty much Matt's been the favourite from the start I think we can all agree.  Yes though technically Aiden was favourite for a very short while.
Report bazbazzerbarry October 25, 2010 3:26 PM BST
Yeah agree.

Shayne peaked in week 2 when he did Daniel Bedingfield btw.

He was the chosen winner (sung last in final etc) but was nearly pipped when Simon stupidly mentioned Andy's dead mum.  Sloppy mistake which he will have learnt from.
Report LOU MACARIS TARTAN B October 25, 2010 3:32 PM BST
Oh I see.  Matt the one to beat?
Report Henry VIII October 25, 2010 3:41 PM BST
Although Matt is the favourite with the public at the moment that doesn't mean he's Cowell's chosen one.

Cowell's main aim is to have an entertaining and credible TV program, that's where his money comes from, therefore he wants all acts to be as good as possible (with one or two acts there for comedy value). Secondary considerations are to future record sales and, especially with this series, hopefully American appeal. Matt wouldn't get anywhere in the US but Rebecca could.
Report grendel October 25, 2010 3:42 PM BST
to answer the heading ...NO !

in my opinion his performances so far have been understated in comparison to his outstanding version of 'The first time ever I saw your face' he did at boot camp, I would love to see him do Losing My Religion one week as he'd nail that song.

My only concern is he is not showing much personality and people may find it hard to warm to him in terms of winning the show

I could say Matt would do well in America and Rebeccca wouldn't so that cancels that out doesn't it?

I don't know I'm sure Henry aint that bad.  My credentials are that I clearly picked the winner here two years ago with only one choice right at the start and did exactly the same last year too.  My guy's not doing too bad me thinks this year either.  You've no doubt got the winner Hel whoever wins as have most on here!
Report Henry VIII October 25, 2010 3:57 PM BST
Lou you and Angela made a good call of being original Matt backers.

But, although he is musically talented, I have seen many New York buskers just as talented.

Henry

But you haven't seen young 18 year old lads who can sing as wonderfully as One D?
Report Asparagus Man October 25, 2010 4:06 PM BST
There is no chosen one yet imo.

The first six weeks of this show are devoted to publicity and viewing figures without any consideration to who wins.

After about 6 weeks SC picks one to win and makes sure it happens.

Of course there are favoured acts even at this early stage, but there isn't a chosen one - yet
Report Henry VIII October 25, 2010 4:07 PM BST
I'm in love with One D. I think they've brought on a bit of latency in me. Who'd have thought at my age? (Don't tell the wife [;)] )

They don't like the fact that I tell em' they're talking nonsense at certain times.  They also don't like it that I keep picking 1 selection at the very start and going on to win.  This year I've told em' all Matt's my choice right at the very start and they don't like it.  They so want to trip me up that's why they have a go.  Look to see if you can find a post with me digging at Helmuthian for arguememnts sake.  You won't.  I respect his views but he should respect mine which he doesn't so I'll have no more to do with him.

A couple of weeks ago Helmuthian doubted I'd even had any bets.  How great it felt when I cut n'pasted them to prove it.  He quickly went back into his shell with his tail between his legs.

I backed Nicolo at 38 and Aiden at 12 yes because I thought at the start this year was very open.  By far my biggets win though is Matt who is the one I've singled out from the start.

I thought Nicolo would go a long way so was very suprised he went straight out I have to admit.

to the original poster.....matt hasn't peaked yet and will only get better (my opinion only)....i'm actually hoping to get out at 1.6 (as i will have made what i intended too at the start and i couldn't stand the thought of falling at the last fence).....i think it's a 2 horse race and i honestly think matt has the bigger fan base as said in a previous thread he will pick up votes of the leaving contestants.

a few thoughts

helmuthian is actually an insightful guy lou - dont be so petty as to add him to your growing persona non gratis list

he made a point which is that, whenever anyone posts about matt, you will be on within seconds with your pro matt spiel. it's true, it is a little wearing, whether its ramping or just enthusiasm

lou - i like you but stop blowing your trumpet - all this - maybe they're just jealous because i get one pick every year and i get it right' baloney - leave that childish tripe to the kindergarten. you're better than that

interesting point about whether matt can maintain his position - wouldnt be the biggest journey ever seen on x factor but signs are he has the best voice as well as being likeable, a potent combination. matt, rebecca and boyband nailed on for final, imo.
Report bustarhymes October 25, 2010 5:48 PM BST
i was gutted on that first night....i backed him straight after his performance and took the 4.7 he then drifted out to 5.5....gutted Cry.......as for this b0llox that he has no charisma, it's laughable.he's instantly likeable and i honestly think he can sing any genre of music.....i suppose you've seen his performance of duffy's mercy and his bands songs on youtube ?........different class Cool

The reason I answer a lot of posts is that i have the time on my hands and I'm bored to be honest.  I have no kids, only work as a rule at the weekend so have nothing much to do.  I enjoy joining in and saying my bit.

I can't suddenly change my stance.  I DO think Matt is the best, I DO think ONE D are very overpriced. I DO think Wagner is absolutely dreadful etc etc.  So when I see somone talking about that I'll respond.  As I said often out of pure boredom.

evryone i've spoke to at work say he's got the best voice.i havn't heard one person say he's cocky or lacking charisma....all i get from people is that he's nice and has a good voice and sings the songs well.granted this only amounts to about 20 people but within those 20 people are a good cross section of young and old/male and female.

i've said on another thread that if he doesn't sell one record after the x-factor that it won't bother me in the slightest because i'm only interested in making money from my bet.

saying that i think he's got real potential and will make a decent living whatever the outcome.don't kid ourselves here and think that any act will survive more than 5 years, and thats being ultra optomistic (bar the odd one) or will conquer the world, it is after all when you take away the surface make up a piece of throw away tv.as long as they last around 2 years simon and the tv producers will be happy.

the only worry on form would be Ben in Leona's year.

He hit around 2.2 in weeks 3/4

really looked a dial a distance job....then lost his voice one week, fell out with Osbourne, got slated in the press,
Leona nailed "Summertime" and then met with a fate no man should have to deal with

polling less votes than Ray Quinn in a singing contest [:(]
