Some fantastic song rumours this week.  Strange as the song choices are, they could work for Matt, Mary and Wagner.  Cher will get her usual plaudits, even if it sounds exactly the same as every other week so far, while Justin Bieber is a perfect choice for 1D.  Rebecca could be exposed with that song - it'll be interesting to see how she performs out of her comfort zone.  Also, Treyc singing Tina is way too obvious - I would have thought that the Led Zep option would have made her a more interesting contender.

Mary - I Who Have Nothing

Louis just said on Paul O'Grady unless my ears were deceiving me. Think he said she was going to sing, 'Ain't No Mountain High Enough' but it was no good in rehearsal so she has changed to this Bassey tune.
Report Dizzy42 October 22, 2010 9:34 PM BST
Jeez - how many times can Mary sing the same shouty show tune...?!?!
Report Cider October 22, 2010 10:11 PM BST

Report Henry VIII October 22, 2010 10:35 PM BST
She's an audience favourite and I'll be she get's a lot of votes. Dependable powerful tuneful voice, people are relieved to be sure of hearing decent singing when she comes on.

I don't think she'll be "found out" in disco week as somebody said, I think she'll be there till the end.
Report Mikeeey October 22, 2010 10:44 PM BST
Curdle's price is staying pretty solid - he must have another song to suit his girlie voice!
Report Dizzy42 October 22, 2010 10:49 PM BST
Unfortunately I agree that she'll be there until the latter stages...  But ultimately she'll be found out.  This routine can only go on for so long.  Both Cher and Mary are one trick ponies at the opposite end of the singing spectrum!
Report Henry VIII October 22, 2010 11:00 PM BST
But Mary's "trick" is that she sings brilliantly (and doesn't have the mentalist baggage of SuBo).
Report Dizzy42 October 22, 2010 11:28 PM BST
Subo only had to sing three times and still the public saw through it...  Can't see Mary surviving seven performances to get through to the final.

Matt - Britney's Baby One More Time Shocked Shocked
Report Dizzy42 October 23, 2010 10:13 AM BST
Reports from yesterday's rehearsals confirm that late song switches mean that Mary is now doing 'I Who Have Nothing' (yet another shouty belter of a song then) instead of 'Ain't No Mountain High Enough', which she murdered.

Wagner, meanwhile, refused to sing 'Relax', so is now performing a mash up of 'Spice Up Your Life' and 'Livin' La Vida Loca'.
Report five leaves left October 23, 2010 10:15 AM BST
Better choice for Wagner.
Report Dizzy42 October 23, 2010 10:16 AM BST

shocker for Katie imho. Think she is the biggest shoe-in for bottom 3.
Report Dizzy42 October 23, 2010 10:23 AM BST
Has to be - if it's true (although it almost sounds like it's been fed to the papers as a wind up) they clearly want Katie gone.  At around 6s she's still good value to be first out.

King of the Swingers?!?! I just don't get it!

Matt Cardle - Hit Me Baby One More Time (Britney Spears)

So for the benefit of everyone piecing it together, it looks like we have:

Mary - I Who Have Nothing (Shirley Bassey)
Matt - Baby One More Time (probably Travis' take on it)
One Direction - Nobody Knows (Pink)
Wagner - Spice Up Your Life / Livin La Vida Loca (mash up)
Aiden - Diamonds Are Forever (another Bassey number?  Seems odd)
Belle Amie - Footloose or I'll Stand By You (Pretenders / Girls Aloud)
Weasel - I'm The King Of The Swingers (Jungle Book - surely a joke?!)
Treyc - Stairway to Heaven or Simply The Best
Rebecca - I'm Outta Love (Annastacia)
Cher - Survivor (Destiny's Child)

Some of these are still unsubstantiated as yet...

I see Mary heading back to comfort zone of her Dublin song.  If "Ain't no mountain" is too much for her then she can't ride this out for another 9 weeks or whatever surely? Even allowing for Irish/Scots vote.

Think Matt's could be a good choice as he can play on the pathos of the "my lonelines is killing me" etc which the mums would like to put right for him Love

Wagner a slight danger in that English not his first language (tho I understand him Dannii you evil cow) plus I think he has trouble remembering lyrics so a mish mash could be car crash but the songs themselves are set up for him if he nails them.

Katie's, if serious, is a one way ticket to palookaville.  "Swingers" and her telling porkies about her and Matt...someone somewhere is having a laugh.

Paijes sob story is overrated in the market, 4s to be bottom 3 is good. I am pretty sure Wagner, Katies junglebook and bellame will be more memorable to the public when deciding who to vote for.

He could even finish bottom if he is on early!
Report deejayric October 23, 2010 6:59 PM BST
I quite like the choices. I like the fact they're being less obvious with the songs this year, it's less karaoke and pushing the 'artist' much more.

The most obvious, safe, boring choices could well be the ones in trouble this week imo - ie Paije and Bellamy. Of the more 'innovative' choices, TreyC could well struggle.

Safe tends to win the day on X Factor though...  It's when they push the boundaries that you find them in trouble!

I think Belle Amie should be safe with that choice - but I can't believe Katie is still available at 5s.  She should be odds on.
Report birchy October 23, 2010 7:15 PM BST
I agree Dizzy. If Katie is one of the first 3 acts on she is nailed on imo. People wont be able to forget when she butchers a jungle book classic [:D]
Report ghatroonh October 23, 2010 7:21 PM BST
Whilst Belle Aime's song choice is safe, its also likely to be bland and forgettable.

Belle Aime haven't been memorable enough in any of the shows so far, so I think they're the one act that needed to take a risk and get noticed.

Would anyone recognise any of the Belle Aime girls walking past you in the street? Another problem.
Report deejayric October 23, 2010 7:24 PM BST
Not so sure Dizzy, think there may be a bit of a sea change this year simply because the audience is bored of hearing the same songs every year. It seems the prods are pushing much more for votes for the artist  rather than the song - a good move imo.

But I'm probably wrong, and Bellamy will be safe with ANOTHER 'I'll Stand By You', zzz
