it would ruin it tho. last year joe didn't top the vote regularly until week 7. the year before Ehiogu Quigg topped it every week until near the end, when his support tailed off dramatically. However, had we all known Ehiogu was topping the vote then i think his momentum might have carried on. On the other hand they might have switched sooner to somebody else they thought was struggling in the vote (remember laura white's figures were poor but only because people assumed she was safe - perhaps). When nobody knows whose topping the vote, then it means people aren't influenced into where to put their vote next time.

I thought Eoghan's vote just stayed constant at around 20-30% each week, rather than tailed off - he had absolutely no vote transference from eliminated acts. So easily topped first week vote, but the others eventually caught up.
I can see One Direction being the same this year.

Yes you've surely got to show something from the start. I don't know how Leon was perceived in the early weeks though and he won it. Realistically betting wise there seems to be a top six already after one week whom most people argue about/fancy and the other eight just making up the numbers.

The Top 3 is traditionally made up from two acts who overperformed in week 1 relative to their singing position, joined by one act who marginally underperformed at the start and who achieved momentum during the course of the series.

Who would be deemed the top two then from last week. Mary and Aiden? Obviously we don't know who is gaining momentum yet as we've only ahd one week but I see your point.

IIRC ITV said that Leon topped the voting virtually every week the entire series
But yes would be silly to release figures whilst the show was running. Works fine as is imo

it won't necessarily be the top two, Lou. If someone sang 1st and got 8% that would be more of an overperformance than someone who sang last and got 18%. Does that make sense?
