If the rules of the show have changed surely the bet should be voided?

"If there is an announcement of any change to the established elimination procedure or any ambiguity as to who is voted off, then Betfair reserves the right to void this market at its absolute discretion."

Procedure has changed, no?  It doesn't seem right not to void it as my betting choices were based on two people going.  If I had known you were going to open up a 2nd Elimination one hour before the show I would have split my bets over the two markets.

Also, the rules do not mention that the 1st Elimination is one act.

well, the issue is if you have voted for one out on the basis that you think they are unlikely to be voted off by the judges, then you realise its lowest vote out, you would f ucked off. its unlikely many of the wildcards would be saved by the judges, prob bar treyc. but now its bottom out, it puts the likes of john, fyc, niccolo, even storm in grave danger imo

This is an established procedure, as per 2006 there was a double eviction.

Very good point made by bunnyman, almost definitely won't be voided on reflection. In fact it's almost absolute that the market will be settled assuming it is lowest votes out 1st then next 2 lowest sing off.

GL.

My point is that people were basing bets on a sing off and judges vote for 1st elimination and would have been speculating what the judges would have decided in a particular scenario.  Now it is probably just the lowest vote.  That is a change in procedure for this particular week and should be voided.  What do you think?
Report Cider October 10, 2010 7:25 PM BST
The wording of the rules may well have been different back then.

As the 'showdown' is specifically mentioned, if there isn't one it pushes the decision into the distinctly grey area.
Report Goldie08 October 10, 2010 7:26 PM BST
Going on above theory it depends on when bet was placed.

So if at 8pm dermot announces procedure whoever is bottom goes 1st.

Punter A, puts his lay bet of any other at 2.30
Punter B puts his back bet of any other at 2.30.

Both do it at same time lets say 8.05. Should the market be voided if procedure is announced?

It doesnt say what the procedure is!
Report Angela Rebecchi October 10, 2010 7:26 PM BST
That was my initial thoughts. But this is an established procedure, all be it 4 years ago. So it can't be voided imho. That said, it says 'to the established procedure' and clearly that is as you say with a sing off.

I think it WILL be voided now. Has to be.

Wish they'd say.

They KNOW its a double eviction.
They KNOW what happens in a double eviction.

SO they must KNOW what their discretion will be. Shambles ffs.
Report Cider October 10, 2010 7:28 PM BST
For me, established means it happens regularly, not once four years ago.

fwiw I'd like to see it settled.

you_have_to_laugh raised a good point:

"can you have an established elimination procedurefor the first show of a new series where the format of the show is different to previous series ? "
Report scarecrow October 10, 2010 7:32 PM BST
as long as they clearly eliminate someone first i think people are just looking for problems that are not there,im speaking through my book mind [;)]
Report scarecrow October 10, 2010 7:33 PM BST
i also see there is a second elimination market framed which i assume is for tonight so hopefully that means no void.
Report Angela Rebecchi October 10, 2010 7:37 PM BST
2nd elimination will be part of the established procedure, so will be fine.
1st elimination is definitely NOT part of THE established procedure.

They have a definite decision on their hands at least scarecrow, I am swaying towards a void.
Report George Bailey October 10, 2010 7:39 PM BST
Good point agent but you shouldn't have to apply advanced philosophical reasoning to know if your bet stands.
Report Goldie08 October 10, 2010 7:39 PM BST
You would think they could of spent 30 minutes today in a meeting or whatever. Deciding this so they could let us know in advance of show starting.
Report scarecrow October 10, 2010 7:40 PM BST
i hope not ar my worst result is +£100 i will be seething as i say if all three sing off it might muddle things up but as long as someone is clearly eliminated first i dont see the problem myself.plus as there has been 100k matched im not sure they will want to lose their commision on it.
Report onthehushhush October 10, 2010 7:43 PM BST
the broad principle is the same as before though - if you don't get the votes you're in trouble. I say let it ride. the get-out clause should only be used when the eviction is not by the public vote at all, something that won't happen on XF.
Report Angela Rebecchi October 10, 2010 7:45 PM BST
Last time they did a double eviction, lowest votes out, then 2nd and 3rd, sing off.

They refer to THE established procedure, which is a sing off. The 1st eliminated won't be involved in a sing off, and people will have punted according to the market rules terms, based on the sing off.

They definitely have to make a decision on this, I think they void. Hope they don't for you bud. They won't tell me, I've asked (emailed and phoned).
Report Angela Rebecchi October 10, 2010 7:47 PM BST
They should clarify it either way othh.
