So far I have had a very good record in choosing the winner of X-Factor (had Joe McElderry last year and Alexandra Burke before that) and Britains Got Talent from early on and hopefully that will continue. Whatever you think of the shows I do believe that they offer a genuine betting opportunity.
This year it's looking stronger than ever, but I think Aiden Grimshaw is a stand out and represents superb value at 10/1 (Boyles, StanJames). The first live show is this evening, after which the market can be expected to change significantly, so it may be worth taking advantage of this now. His singing is excellent, he comes across as a very nice guy and girls (biggest voters) will find him attractive.
As for the other contenders, favourites Rebecca Ferguson and Matt Cardle (both 7/2) have both come across as likeable people and they will clearly have a lot of fans. I expect they'll perform strongly but I think both are vulnerable to somebody with a bit more originality about them.
That takes me to Cher Lloyd and Aiden Grimshaw, the two most original acts in this years line up. Cher had a bad time in the last round and broke down, failing to finish her song at the judges house. She's only 16 and although the break down will lead to a lot of sympathy, there's also still a lot of anger from those whom felt Gamu should have got through ahead of her. In addition I think this has come too soon for her and I have a feeling she may prove too fragile.
The other danger is the boyband One Direction (5/1), managed by Simon Cowell. All decent singers individually, but this group have been put together only in the latter stages of the judging rounds. I think they may lack the togetherness of a self formed band although their youth and looks will ensure a loyal army of female followers.
After that comes Aiden at 10/1. He has done nothing wrong so far and I genuinely believe that this is as good a bet as I've seen on X-Factor. The only worry I have is the song choice from Danni Minogue as I think she's usually the worst of the judges for it and the weakest mentor. I also wondered if he might be gay (they have a good record - Joe last year and Will Young) but I heard he's getting close with Cher Lloyd.
I'd be interested to know if any of the regulars on here have been watching the show and have thoughts of their own on this bet. Good luck!
And certainly people on XF can be made to look like they have stage presence and can connect with an audience through camera work, close ups, etc. (Joe's toothy grin and puppy-dog eyes.) A different matter when having to command a massive stage in the real world.
Similarly, some people I have found pretty nondescript from TV appearances have ended up being terrific live performers with real ability to work a crowd.

I've just had another look at his judges house audition on YouTube. His singing ability is competent and probably good enough to win X-Factor if he had the right songs and comments along with some luck. XF is more about finding a pop star than a good singer, so I can see why he ticks all the right boxes for some people. However, he strikes me as a bit of a actor. He over-do's the hand gesures and facial expressions. This wouldn't be so bad if he had the soul (and voice) of Luther Vandross. But with a bland stage school singer (imo)like Grimmy, it comes across as too contrived. He may last right until the end like Olly Murs did, but at this stage I'm happy to be against him.

He was my pick from the audition shows, I dont really like having a big bet on the X Factor outright though until I see some of the live shows.
I like American Idol where you can get humble, good looking, good singing, young guys at 50/1+ a week before the live shows

I thought the most interesting singer was Rebecca Ferguson. The song was totally unsuitable for her and I am very suprised they picked this teardrops. Anyway she did a realy good job of it.That's why I think she will come through stronger later on.Good luck all.By the way didnt think aiden was much of a singer and he has a confusing look about him.

Not sure if the younger (voting) audience would have really appreciated his Mad World performance as much as the drop in odds would indicate.
Having said that, it all feels rather like McElderry II in various ways.

Got a bit more of an edge than Joe I think. Of course that can be a negative as much as a positive
The interesting factor increased, the cuddly factor decreased

Has he got aspergers or a other form of autism? He seems very awkward and will come across as a weirdo to the typical viewer but a revelation that he suffers from such a disorder would boost his public appeal no end imo.

I must admit I under-estimated Grimmy. His performance last night was possibly the best of the whole show with a great song choice too. Should be interesting to see how he shapes up

Aiden doing everything right so far. I hear the download of his song from the first live show has proved most popular too. Even still represents a great value bet. Bring on Saturday!

He appears to be gay, which is one of the few big positives. Big over-reaction to what was simply a great tune for him to sing. If Matt Cardle had sung it, he'd be shorter and it would have got even more downloads.

Novelty bets not really my area, but I was forced to watch this at the weekend, and I thought this lad looked the winner all over.
Expected around 7/4 to be honest, think he's a great bet at the odds.

He has two problems I think. One is he 'tries too hard' instead of just getting on with singing the song. This had disastrous consequences last night, he was all over the place. The other problem I think is that he needs glasses but does not wear them on stage, presumably due to vanity. And he looks like a person who needs glasses but is not wearing them, if you know what I mean.
On the other hand he is definitely capable of being one of the better singers.
They could transform his chances in one week if they could coach the trying too hard thing out of him and get him to wear his glasses on stage. The dark rimmed glasses being quite fashionable at the moment with the youth. Who knows, that might even be the plan!

he may be too much of a liability now...last night reminded me of that young girl (Holly) on BGT that forgot her words and started crying on live tv...Grimshaw looked like he could of gone the same way last night

I thought he was in with a very very good chance when watching the auditions and had a great first week. Really blew it on Saturday though. they should have lowered the key as he couldn't get near the top notes.

I'd like to know if Grimmer really did choose to sing Jealous Guy like Dannii said on saturday or whether the song was chosen for him. I've bailed out on him because I have no confidence in him at all. If he bounces back in the coming weeks then I shall have to call him Lazarus Grimshaw - can't see it though!

I'd lay him at your peril. Terriffic first week and messed up last week because the key was too high. Sang some of it well bar thge really high note in each verse. I'm already on him but wouldn't want to lay him at 10/1. A real contender me thinks.

It wasn't just the "key was too high" that was the problem. When he makes a mistake he cracks and the whole performance goes to pot. He did manage to hold it together quite well on saturday - but only just. He's too nervous and I reckon he believed he was better than he really is, particularly after a good first week. He may now realise that there are better performers than him in the show. I wouldn't be surprised if he walked out tbh.

Not a chance. The 9k has to be some poor sod who had lumped on at sub 11 and needs to get a packet laid off now they realise he has no chance of winning and its the only way of contracting the price. Just spoke to my wife and she reckons he should be out this week! The 32 to go is a much better bet than 19 to win imo.

If I had the bottle and the bank I wish I could have obliged you. I quite like him but nerves are getting the better of him and folk don't seem to like him - cannot win imo.

i've liked him every week i've seen him, not normally the best strategy for betting on these shows, but at last there's plenty of time for everyone else to change their minds!

To be honest mate I follow the same theory and its worked really well. Have never missed a winner in these things and often at boot camp or within the first 2 or 3 weeks....really think Rebecca is the real thing this time around. She stands out even though nobody seems to know the songs she is given, another Leona for me. Aiden was great on week 1 but it was the perfect song for him. I do fear the little fellas though, a ready made boyband.
