Well the guess wasn't too far away it seems...

The Daily Star Sunday has revealed a new twist ahead of tonight's X Factor, in which the final 12 will be chosen.

The newspaper claims that one of the rejects from tonight's show will be given a chance to make it into the live shows and a possibility of going on to win the show. The wild card surprise is expected to be announced tonight, and will take place in an extended show next weekend.

An alleged senior source told the newspaper, “But there is a massive surprise in store. On the first live show next Saturday, all 20 of the singers and bands who didn’t make it through will come back on the show.”

The X Factor continues tonight at 7.45pm on ITV 1 and ITV 1 HD

This evening will see The X Factor judges get a shock because, according to show sources, they will each be informed of a twist which will see a FOURTH contestant join each category. During next weekend’s first live show, the 20 rejected contestants will return and four of them will be given a second chance.

Each of the judges will be able to pick a fourth act for their category – meaning a total of 16 contestants will go through to perform during the live shows. This year’s opening show is longer than ever and the live shows will also last one week longer than usual, allowing for the extra numbers of finalists.

A show source told the Daily Star: “Simon had been thinking about playing wild cards for a while and this year he decided to do it. The ‘final’ 12 acts chosen tonight will think they are the only ones slugging it out to win because that’s how it has always been.

“But there is a massive surprise in store. On the first live show next Saturday, all 20 of the singers and bands who didn’t make it through will come back on the show.

“And on the night, the four judges will get the chance to choose one act each to include in their category – effectively throwing some of the losers a lifeline to be on the show and ultimately win.

“This is a major shake-up for the show and it’s bound to upset the original 12 acts who were chosen at Judges’ Houses.”

They'll probably give Katie a free pass to the final.
Report PistolC October 3, 2010 10:42 PM BST
If this is the case, then am i right in saying that laying the field now for the 12 in the market can only prove profitable as next week with 4 more entrants the percentage has to to be shared out for the 4 that get back next week bringing everyones odds up. Or am i talking crap lol
Report johnnyrant October 3, 2010 10:49 PM BST
You are probably on to something there Pistol. I'm no expert on percentages and generally not a layer. One of the regulars like squares or George Bush will be able to clarify.
Report Keith Singleton October 3, 2010 10:50 PM BST
Sounds great for Gamu backersGrin
Report PistolC October 3, 2010 10:52 PM BST
Im not an expert myself, they lay book only stnads at 89.2% so i guess there is room for the next 4 entrants, but IMO if that wee girl Gamu gets in, she will be up to 3rd or 4th favourite. I cant believe cheryl picked those tow headcases considering that category was by the best and she picked the 2 who both screwed up the audition & there was 3 or 4 were by far better.
Report Johnny`Honk`Fartpants October 3, 2010 10:54 PM BST
It's allowing 9% already for the other 4, so unless you think one of them can win it could be a dangerous game to play.
Report johnnyrant October 3, 2010 10:57 PM BST
OT - Why has Betfair got separate Winning Category and Winning Mentor markets when they amount to the same thing? Confused
Report PistolC October 3, 2010 10:58 PM BST
Thats what im pondering, IMO Gamu would move up into 3rd. Personally i cant see why matt cardle is favourite, As somewhat of an armchair expert the scouse girl Rebecca is by far the better singer.
Report Johnny`Honk`Fartpants October 3, 2010 10:59 PM BST
Believe it or not JR, some people like to back a particular judge and some a particular category. They can't see that both are the same thing. You know how dumb the British public is.
Report Speculation October 3, 2010 11:09 PM BST
I think the winning category market goes up well before the judge was allocated their group.

More likely Trey c than Gamu she tweeted on Friday that she was very happy but wouldnt disclose the reason.
Report PistolC October 3, 2010 11:17 PM BST
Probably just found out she was still in on a 2nd chance saloon basis, if the judges are voting next week its gonna be live, so i doubt she knows she is in, i rekon she just happy to be still standing

Hmm could be pistol but you would think if theyre in they would know would have thought Gamu but the visa problems are pretty severe I think.
Report ghatroonh October 3, 2010 11:44 PM BST
The visa thing could still be an issue. I'd have thought an easy way for her to get around the family visa problem would be to get a student visa (I think she's a student isn't she), but you can't be a full time student and be on x-factor at the same time (at least not as far as immigration are concerned).

As was reported late last week, in a ‘shock twist’ this weekend The X Factor will see the judges all pick a fourth contestant for their category. Despite initial rumours that the ‘wildcards’ would be picked live on Saturday, the decisions have already been made and the contestants have found out their fate…

For the groups, it seems as though Simon has decided to opt for a little bit of fun by picking singing duo Diva Fever, who performed Girls Aloud’s ‘Love Machine’ at judges’ houses this weekend.

Louis meanwhile has returned to offer Wagner a chance in the live shows, he’ll be joining his top 3 choices of Mary, Scott and John.

Aussie judge Dannii Minogue is reported to have picked Paije Richardson to return to compete as the fourth member for her Boys category this week.

Finally Cheryl Cole is said to have picked Treyc Cohen as her wildcard for the Girls, a perhaps controversial choice given the public annoyance at Gamu not getting through, however these decisions were made before the weekend’s shows were aired.

It is currently unclear what part the four wildcards will play in the competition, whether all four will compete to make a Top 16 or whether the public will vote to keep only one of them in the competition will be revealed this Saturday (October 9).

As always these are still rumours and not confirmed – however so were the final 12 leaks and they were all correct…
Report GeorgeBrush October 5, 2010 1:31 PM BST
Thinking logically - it's got to be the full 16 has it not?

Else there's no time for the vote and to put the winner in with the 12 to sing....

Unless they got a bye to week 2, something the 12 would think a little unfair...
Report robster October 5, 2010 1:45 PM BST
i think the 4 will sing and then phone lines open when the other 12 sing.  At the end of the show they will decide which of the wildcards will join the other 12.  After that they will open the phone lines for the 12 finalists and one of those will leave on Sunday
Report stringerbell October 5, 2010 1:48 PM BST
yes thats probably the scenario
Report GeorgeBrush October 5, 2010 1:48 PM BST
Doable robster, yes, although surely you'd have to be voting on a 13, not 12
Report robster October 5, 2010 1:53 PM BST
wildcard winner automatically gets through to week 2?  You are right they others will think its unfair but it will shake it up a bit.  Bit worried they are turning it into some sort of "Big Brother" show.  Can't we just have the 12 original people, they get 20 million people watching it each week, theres no need to play stupid games to attract publicity
Report Asparagus Man October 5, 2010 1:54 PM BST
That seems a good scenario to me as well robster.

Maximises the drama and two lucrative phone votes in a weekend.
Report GeorgeBrush October 5, 2010 1:59 PM BST
Are your books well down on same week last year rob? (just this week)

Market has been very slow on here because of the uncertainty
Report robster October 5, 2010 2:13 PM BST
no to be fair, turnover has been up this year.  Helped a lot by having two pretty short prices in Cher & Gamu, thats all the people have wanted to back.  Im surprised Betfair never went up earlier but it must be tricky until the final 12 were announced.
Report GeorgeBrush October 5, 2010 2:14 PM BST
I just mean this week rob, I know it would have been great takings on Cher and Gamu
Report GeorgeBrush October 5, 2010 2:15 PM BST

Report robster October 5, 2010 2:33 PM BST
this week we took decent money during the show and on monday.  Today has been a bit of a slow burner, bit of money for Katie for 1st out thats about it
Report GeorgeBrush October 5, 2010 2:47 PM BST
Yep, some crazed drunkard lobbed up £600 on here last night for her
Report DeSSieReborn October 5, 2010 3:20 PM BST
What if they all pick one wildcard, and ask the public to vote to decide the ONE out of those four that gets in? More money spinning votes
Report mayway October 5, 2010 5:09 PM BST
If Gamu's not in the 4 then no-one should vote at all.....
Report ghatroonh October 5, 2010 7:42 PM BST
Would they really have two votes going on simultaneously - one for the top 12 and one for the wildcard? makes me think there's a top 12.

Surprised about Wagner. Yuli actually seemed pretty good - singing Bonkers was always going to sound ridiculous and OTT - but she did the best she could with it. Wagner was terrible at the judges house though.
Report GeorgeBrush October 5, 2010 7:49 PM BST
rob suggested the WC vote could run while the other twelve are singing

Then the winner could join the 12 in the overnight vote, so not 2 simultaneous votes

If you catch the drift
Report GymTanLaundry October 5, 2010 8:35 PM BST
WC winner surely nailed on for B2 then?
Report GeorgeBrush October 5, 2010 9:36 PM BST
How you figure that Papa?  The WC winner, by definition will have given a good performance and have a decent amount of public support.

They could even sing again - last of the 13 - when the result is announced
Report Benjy October 5, 2010 9:50 PM BST
I agree with you but having to vote for them twice would possibly put some off though.

If there is to be an extra mentor but then the current ones pick who they have (as seems to have been suggested) then that doesn't really make sense does it. Say Nicole is the 5th judge and then Walsh picks Wagner to give himself a better chance. Laugh
Report GymTanLaundry October 5, 2010 9:54 PM BST
just thought you'd have 4 wildcards, the 12 contestants, then voting on 13.  in which case, the wildcard is on much earlier AND will already have had people vote for them once - could they be bothered to vote again?  dunno really.
Report PistolC October 5, 2010 10:12 PM BST
Am i missing something here, i thought it was the judge's who vote between themselves forr the wildcard pick, why we talking about 2 public phone in's?
Report GeorgeBrush October 5, 2010 10:22 PM BST
No clear idea yet if it's 4 extra bods or a vote for 1 yet pistol
Report GymTanLaundry October 5, 2010 10:29 PM BST
is the judges were voting then it'd be a total waste of time - no need to bring 4 back, just pick one beforehand.

my guess is 16 confirmed finalists.  double evictions to come.
Report GeorgeBrush October 5, 2010 10:30 PM BST
