It's all but confirmed now that this boy band they make up called New Direction is through to the live shows and the group is made up of Liam Payne, Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson and Zayn Malik. I have no idea who the final two are but the first 3 have all been seen and are all in the market somehwere.

Liam is the shortest by far and is generally second favourite at 6/1 but Harry and Niall are available at 25/1 and 66/1 respectively. The group when they enter the betting will be much shorter than that (actualy they already are at some places) but if you put a bet on one of these two now then will that go on to the group or be voided? They surely can't consider it a loser so I guess there isn't a lot to lose by having a go but just wondering if you think there is any chance of getting away with it?

I guess a few have already considered this or done this but any opinions.

Same could be done for the girls as well of course.

They're dealing with new circumstances a lot of the time in these markets, so assume they make a decision when they run into a problem/dispute.

IMO, if someone backs Niall Horan and New Direction win the XF it would be initially settled as a losing bet (as Niall Horan has not won the XF, New Direction have) and then when the backer complains the bet might get voided.

And I doubt the backer would get a bet accepted on that account again.

Bills are offering "7.00 Liam Payne (solo, group)" so presumably they pay out in both instances.

But they're offering "26.00 Harry Styles" so I can't see them paying out that if he wins in ND.

A case of making sure each case at the point of betting.

anyone looking to get paid on a 25/1 solo artist who joins a group, is a complete chancer imo!

Slightly off the point, but New Direction is a bloody terrible name for a group. I'd lay on that basis alone Cool

It's no worse than Journey South or Same Difference, or JLS, and we are dealing here in the currency of crass, lowest common denominator commercial dirge so it shouldn't be any sort of handicap to them. They won't need to sing that well either with the ringmaster Cowell standing up to applaud them and telling the eejits back home that they are the best thing since sliced bread etc etc.

SCowell is obviously behind it.  A lot of his talk early doors was about how this is the Glee era and XF has to move with the times, etc.  He must think the name will cement that connection.

JLS is a decent enough name for a trendy pop combo aimed at the teen market. And they're decent singers too - they do what they do in a reasonably talented way.

Journey South and Same Difference, on the other hand, are both dire names for utterly talentless acts who can't sing. 'New Direction', as a name, is in the same vein. I would've thought they'd have come up with a more 'credible' sounding name for a band they're obviously pushing as this year's main group-category hope. It doesn't bode well for a 5/1 shot imo Silly

New Directions is the club name in Glee, currently massively popular. SCs new boy band named New Direction - coincidence?
Report GeorgeBrush September 22, 2010 6:21 PM BST
Named after the swinging magazine popular in the 80's. nap
