top class player, clearly too gifted to be a centre back.
True mate , when I first started watching him play for Chelsea I was amazed by the flair and all round game he had , could defend , pass , cross , score goals , run , all with style of a true Brazilian , one of my fav players and a real shame he has gone from premiership
be interesting next season PSG , fast gathering a team of superstars and if they make more signings like that they will be a cash cow in next seasons champ league

Another in the production line of premiership players that gets awarded "top class" status for reasons unknown. Charges around like a lunatic , constantly out of position and a joke when defending at Chelsea.
Smashes in a freekick, cries at the anthem and saying his prayers with fingers aloft ... all things that make the Sky-spoon-fed football fan declare him to be top class.

Obviously too many on here unable to know what is a talented footballer, and apparently think the top clubs in Europe are nuts for wanting to sign him,and are clueless. Wallis,Chelsea's win record when he played was well above average.A flamboyant player that brings excitement to the game, but most importantly, puts many players to shame with his never-say-die attitude. He brought Brazilian flare to the Prem.,and got man-of -the- match on numerous occasions. Not bad for a player that many on here think isn't any good. Focusing on his errors, well I can think of a long list of top Prem. players that made plenty of errors. Best position,in front of the back 4,defensive midfielder.

With him being a liability is a very british view of things, they like defenders to defend only.
Hopefully someone will point out all of his mistakes that have cost chelsea/brazil games.

Perhaps they will point out that "great England defender" G. Johnson's never-ending out-of-position mistakes first. Then when done they can add L.Baines to that list. And also remind many that A.Cole is "too old" and past it,but is still wanted by many top clubs.Maybe he isn't really "too old",and is a very fit and experienced player.

unbiased - who in the Chelsea team wouldnt have an above average win rate ? Chelsea win most matches and I would imagine he played in games against "lesser" teams. Mourinho doesnt trust him and plays Cahill and Terry at the back , Luiz only appears against the lower standard canon fodder so his win record is probably very good.
Words like "flamboyant , never-say-die , flair" are fine but its hardly "quality , class , great defending , good positioning" etc. None of them mean he is a top class footballer.
Shame to see him go as I like the guy but he is an average footballer whos character elevates him above some others. He is the Brazillian Jimmy Bullard.

Problem the lad has is finding players on the same wavelength so he looks out of place at Chelsea
Stick him in with a little flair and class then what do ya know ........he is in the world cup semis
While England "build for the future " with a winless group stage exit

3rd fav already for Golden ball on top of scoring one of the greatest goals in world cup history
You jest shirley? He's 3rd fav more on the basis of neymar being out and people backing players from teams in the final - he's the Brazilian, Neur was backed and Robben, none of whom had anything other than a decent performance but all shortened (if only for a short time) a fair bit.

The amount of negativaty from some doesn't warrant the energy in responding.Obviously some forumites have a different view of the game, that is their privilege, but for sure it doesn't make them right.

greatest goals in world cup history....mudder of god......
this is the same bloke who nearly decapitated a lower league player with his elbow when he couldnt get the better of him.
Class is James Rodriguez, who after having being kicked all over the park still was gentlemanly enough to swap jerseys with the c--t.
I know what I would of done, I'd have told him to f-off.

Agree about Rodriguez, and to be admired the way he kept his cool through plenty of provocation. Good free-kick from Luiz, but not one of the all-time great goals,no way,but his Brazilian way of playing is refreshing. And no,no way is he a dirty player, over enthusiastic at times, but certainly not a clogger. Take a look on youtube at another Brazilian's free kicks, namely Alex, ask Arsenal fans!.

hello:) - i've been watching the castrol index since the start and it is baffling how it works! James went down after his 2 goal performance because he missed half the jaap game - where he was the best player when he was on. Nobody seems to know exactly how they arrive at the results they do using the castrol index!

Remember that v Brentford. Nasty nasty piece of work. And dreadful defender.

Players look to their leader for an example to follow. Brazil did and like LUIZ they all ran around like headless chickens. The only thing they didn't do was run around elbowing the opposition like LUIZ did. He could have been sent off 3 times and got away with it. Just like he did at Chelsea and got away with it. He may be a good player if used in midfield, but said before tournament that no team with LUIZ at central defender can win anything. Mourinho must be laughing all the way to the bank after getting rid.

still believe he's a player but last night was woeful, lost his head, signs were there in second leg v a Madrid when he started hitting 60 yard Hollywood passes to no-one. not as culpable as people are saying got to be collective responsiblity here, full backs too far forwad leaving cds exposed. scolaris team selection questionable, fred ????????? also silva neymar missing its as though were looking for excuses before ball kicked. do agree 50 m is way over his value though.

I read somewhere that distinctive looking players catch the eye on the pitch, are overvalued in the transfer market.
The first example was Claudia Cannigia, with his long blonde hair. Then Carlos Valderamma, David Beckham (new hairstyle every few months) . Now Manuel Fellaini, David Luiz. All show, no go.

After he missed his tackle, he and the ref were in a similar position up the pitch.
By the time the goal went in, the ref had sprinted into the penalty area and Luiz was still 35 yards out.
A centre back?!!

If I didn't reply you would think I was running away,so here goes.Yes,he had a poor game ,but so did many other Brazilians. I have advocated right from the start that his BEST position is defensive midfield, just in front of the back 4,and that is where Jose put him,in the end,and he had some very good games against top players in the Prem.Agree centre back isn't for him,and that brings up the point about Scolari. Going into the game relying on Fred+ Hulk says all you need to know. They have been poor right through the tournament,as have many players too.I believe Oscar stated he was "burnt out" before the games started, and needless to say he had some poor games. I don't rate Scolari at all as a coach, and he appears to have no tactical awareness whatsoever. He achieved success in the past with Brazil due to having some very good players, and wasn't able to mess up.This time round he has some very average players, and got it all wrong. One player can't shoulder ALL the blame, but the coach can! If the team had no discipline,he must take the blame, and has made Brazil a laughing stock throughout the World.

All those people who posted saying Luiz was a good player need to stop betting a d commenting on football immediately.
Luiz is utter dog**** and it has been obvious to everyone who has an unbiased attitude for years.
Good luck PSG with you £48m buffoon. We'll done Jose for cashing in.

HowieTheRookie. The Premiership will miss the likes of him and Suarez (I know they both have their knockers, but they are very entertaining players)
Well he certainly made me laugh last night.
morpteh mackem one of best players i've ever seen, could play in any position. just a natural.
Ibrahima Sonko top class player, clearly too gifted to be a centre back.

Will stand by what I said , never seen the guy as a centre half as he is a little cavalier at times , stick him in midfield and you would see an amazing player
I wouldn't read much into tonite or against germany , shell shock

every player has bad patches wallis , strikers droughts for example
Ive seen enough of Luiz to know the guy has a hazardous side , but I also see a side that is sheer genius
playing 50/60 yard passes to feet out of nowhere , goals that are astounding , determination and energy
If he was as this thread is trying to paint him then don't you think the other four Brazilians at PSG would have advised them to steer clear , they were very very happy to land him
I believe PSG will go very close in champ league next year and Luiz will play a big part in that

I am lost for words to describe how bad his defensive header was for the second goal.
Not a mistake, as such, but a diabolical error of judgement.
Maybe the pressure has got to him.

totally agree it has nothing to do with pressure though he is just an average player who is now trying to do things beyond his ability and it all makes him look even worse
bottom line PSG massively overpaid
