Obviously a shorter qualification process for each tournament, smaller qualifying groups, maybe play each team only once, possibly involving one or more knock-out stages…..

In the 21st century, why should we deny ourselves these pleasures?

A World Cup only once every 4 years? - it like the Victorian age!

Don't you think because its every 4 years is part of what makes it special?

I think the idea has merit. They could cut down the champions league & Europa league entrants or make them a proper one leg knockout competition, which would make the games much more exciting.

How about some rule changes, like -1 point for each side for a 0-0 draw in all leagues?

Every 4 years is fine.

i'd have all the qualifier games during May/June of non World Cup/Euro years ie the Euro 2016 qualifiers would be played next May and June 2015 - the domestic season could be slightly shorter as we wouldn't need free weekends for International games

Thing is no one is ar$ed about international games during the season because it gets in the way of your club side so give it it's own window

Another change i'd like to see is staggered kick off times for champions league 19.00 and 21.00 - the dutch, german, Italian sides etc could kick off at 19.00 and the Spanish, Portuguese and English etc could kick off at 21.00

the biggest joke is increasing no. teams in euro 2016 to 24...means more than a third of the teams in europe qualify and the qualification procedure a pretty meaningless moneymaking joke....what's new?

also reduce no. ofteams in champions league to a max of 2 per country and make the Europa league a 2 legged knockout completion..ain't gonna happen though cos of the greedy ****s who run football and the stupid fans who pay to watch middle of the road overhyped dross

Like your idea toffee

the timing is less important than the choice of venue
pick a venue and stick to it
stop countries from spending money they don't have to stage it

toffee's idea is a great compromise, a mini qualifying tournament, say 6 games for all in July. Far too sensible though

yes, I think his idea on qualifying is excellent - get internationals out of the domestic football season…...but would it be a qualifying tournament which would take a lot of organisation, or maybe just a round robin where teams played the other teams in the group
once, home or away….

i also like his idea of staggering the CL matches.

I think it's ok the way it is with a major tournament every 2 years.

this gives all countries the time and space to arrange and play qualifying matches and as somebody mentioned earlier it makes these competitions special as they only happen every 4 years.

it's not as if there is no other football in between as there are loads of league and cup games plus the european comps as well as qualifying internationals.

having the world cup and the euros every 2 years would mean a major tournament every summer and it would just be too much for the players and the fans not to mention only the same few countries being interested in hosting them each year.
