This is my XI

The absolute Daddy of the lot is Claudio Gentile.

Shame that Duncan Ferguson never made the WC, as he would have featured and run Gentile close.

Here we go:

1-    Toni Schuacher
2-    Claudio Gentile
3-    Daniel Passarella
4-    Graeme Souness
5-    Antonio Rattin
6-    Nigel De Jong
7-    Andonio Goicoetxea
8-    Roy Keane
9-    Horst Hrubesch
10-    Joe Jordan
11-    Marco Tardelli

Claudio Gentile

From Wiki: He man-marked Diego Maradona in a match at the 1982 World Cup, after which he famously quipped, "Football is not for ballerinas!"
I mentioned him to the proprietor of the Italian chipper where they have a framed picture of the 1982 team.  I learned Gentile was born in Libya.

Romeo Benetti - I remember reading a newspaper article once & the journalist jokingly said if he was on the balcony with Juliet he would probably throw her off it

Don't know about Romeo, but Peter would have dropped her.

Honourable mention to Carlos Caszely, the first player to be red-carded in the World Cup (1974).

But was he hard?
Wiki "He was revered by many Chileans as a supporter of the left under the Pinochet dictatorship and as one of the few leading Chilean footballers to declare his opposition to the regime."
