I've backed him at 50/1 ew too.  He should play as a lone striker and he's in the weakest group.  For me Switzerland are a decent outfit and possibly the most underrated team in the competition, but Ecuador are overrated and Honduras look out of their depth, plus they play both their games against those two teams in favourable climates.  The way the games are structured seems positive too, meaning they shouldn't be guaranteed qualification before the final game against Ecuador.  A fast start against Honduras is essential, a brace against them would really set him up as a contender but if he fails to score in that game he might lose his place to Giroud and the bet will be as good as dead.

It does look like he should play all 3 group games because even if they beat Switzerland I still think a poor Ecuador side will scrape a win against Honduras meaning France won't be certain of qualification.  Plus they wont want to meet Argentina in the last 16.
