usa - flukey keeper goal
algeria - no shots ,total control of game
slovenia - easy win
germany - we had more possession, more shots on target,a disallowed goal,a 39 yr old keeper.

3-0 v argies(best team in world)- we had them 2- 2 .

long live capello and pearce - we can do it.

That's right we scored 2 goals against them. 2 more than the Argies. If this is an average German team I'd hate to see a good German team.

Been saying it all along, all those knocking England at this WC didn't have a clue - we didn't win, but neither were we terrible against Germany (potentially the best side here).

they had 4 one on ones against mr 39 yr old relegation champion and scored 4 / even a pub team keeper would save 2 out of 4 .wrong position, not charging them down enough and missing shots .we were bad in defence but every half chance ended up in the net.

i m sure we could of done better with a real none 39 yr old relegation calamity and add in a nicky type butt, terrible carling opta stats on tackles/pass completion(aka the messiah),thats the first messiah, the 2nd messiah is joe cole,3rd messiah crouch,4th walcott,5th adam johnson,6th,zamora etc etc

hmm interesting...........that's your problem, you've been saying that all along and we've all been listening. If nothing else i've managed to ascertain that you're knowledge of football is on a par with my cats.

shrewdbury - some of your posts are extraordinary. are you fishing ? England were woeful apart from the briefest of periods, and have generally been woeful for the best part of 40 years. when we as a country start to realise this , we can start to move forward. if Brazil, Germany, Argentina, Italy, Holland, Spain, or France had achieved so little, for so long, there would have been complete reform from grass roots upwards. We however still think we're doing it right and are just a tad unlucky. give me strength.

2-2 England Germany (and potentially 4-2 if we're kind and say it would still have gone that way in goals at 2-2)

4-0 and crushed Argentina.

Don't start thinking that because England got a goal against the Germans and Argenting did'nt that they are a better outfit, dellusional thinking like this means you will never move on and start to iron out the deficiencies in the team.  Accept the fact the English team is piss poor and set about fixing it, it's the only way forward.

but so what ? can you not see how poor England are and have been for so long ? Serbia beat Germany ~ do you think they're at home with the same delusions ? it's so tragic.
By:

When: 03 Jul 10 17:38
Serbia beat them with a bent ref only reason for that result.

I'm not saying England were great, but they weren't as bad as most of the armchair pundits think.

The tragedy is that he is sort of right. We probably are better than Argentina. As a continent, Europe looks stronger than South America this time round.

With better luck with injuries, and a better manager (come back, Sven!), we could have gone further.

i think we should guard against throwing out the baby with the bathwater. we were good in 1990 and in 1998 and were also unlucky in one of the euro championships, so we haven't been bad all along and the rub of the green has not gone our way in virtually every tournament we've contested

i must say this time round i think we were a long way short of our best, especially out wide which is where i think our root problems were and we do, definitely need a goalkeeper who inspires confidence

Exactly HV - it's about a balanced approach rather than just screaming 'oh we're so terrible'. Some things we were, some things less so - we mullered some of the other countries in getting here lets not forget either.

I notice that most of those screaming about how bad england were are not even english anyway.

It is one thing to delude yourself before the competition begins and even when your miserably failing as it proceeds but to continue deluding yourself after the event can only be described as the English disease and for some people their is no cure - sad really

I think England were generaly pretty crap but they didn't have much luck either

1)Green's farsical goal

2)USA scored with what was just about the last kick of the game in their final group game which mean't instead of an easy draw England were faced with a horrendous one.

3) The referee in the Germany game didn't seem to think that two feet in the goal was far enough to officially give it.

Germany have reached semi-finals in 11 of last 15 world cups- sometimes with very average players. Isn't about time we learnt from them? Look at the current team, how many world class players do they have? So what are they doing right:-
1) Team - the team and team spirit are paramount- the fact that they have no superstars/prima donnas is a big advantage.
2) They all know their role in the system
3) Their manager analyses the opposition and then tweaks his tactics
4) The system is based on 100% effort, passing, running and using space- bit like old Liverpool teams

Football is a simple TEAM game a well organised, intelligent good players prepared to die for their teamates will often beat team of "stars"

telepathic - miserably failing is losing in the group stages, or maybe not even qualifying...(not scottish are you? Mischief)

Going out in that Germany match was not miserably failing, as pointed out we went out to the side that is currently trading as favourites for the wc, yet should have been holding them at 2-2

Germany always have a one half young / one half experienced team in the World Cup.  In the next World Cup the young part become the experienced, and they get another young crop.

They assess their squad early with physical tests to weed out the un-athletic.

England have an aged squad with no young talent in it for the next World Cup (unless you count the goal-less Rooney as talent.)

I find that replying to individual points all from the same illogical thought process is a waste of time and effort as you are still suffering from delusions and cant get your mind on the facts.
By:
shrewdbury
When: 03 Jul 10 19:14
Would that be the fact that we went out to germany (current favourites)

Or that we did in reality do better than Scotland, Wales, Ireland, France, Italy, Australia etc....

Which of those facts is tricky for you?
By:

When: 03 Jul 10 19:21
I believe that any logical thought process is tricky for you. Lie down in a dark room with a cold compress on your forehead and see if that clears your head. Failing that just keep bashing your head of the nearest wall till your head clears or you conk out. Any result will be a relief to readers.
