None of the referees at this year's WC who refereed a last 16 clash are doing a QF, which follows the pattern of the 2002 WC where the final referee was Collina who refereed the final having last refeed in the last 16

Originally appointed to the Uruguay v Ghana game but removed due to the fact a Uruguayan officiated the controversial England v Germany game.
