my favourite and best world cup, final was an absolute thriller, anyone who says differently doesn't have a scooby doo. End to end stuff, chances galore and the right team won in the end.
Find it bizzare that people can claim this world cup has not been thoroughly entertaining, unlike the dire tripe served up 4 years ago. After the 1st round of group games the games have all been excelent imo. |

The others: 4-4 v Belgium in 1954, 2-2 v Soviet Union and Austria in 1958, 1-1 v Republic of Ireland and West Germany in 1990, 2-2 v Argentina in 1998, 1-1 v Sweden in 2002, 2-2 v Sweden in 2006 and 1-1 v USA in 2010. --------------------- technically from a betting perspective the Belgium game was 3-3 at ft and there have been three other ft draws (1966 Germany 2-2, 1970 Germany 2-2, 1990 Cameroon 2-2) with that in mind the Belgium game in 1990 where Platt scored on 120 minutes would bring the number of 0-0 draws to 11: Brazil 1958, Bulgaria 1962, Uruguay 1966, Spain and Germany 1982, Morocco 1986, Netherlands and Belgium 1990, Nigeria 2002, Portugal 2006, Algeria 2010 |

Replies: 500 12 Jul 10 10:20 without question the worst world cup i have seen, seen them all since 1970 which by the way was the best world cup i will ever see i have no doubt in that. i dont really think we need 32 teams in it, 16 in 1970 was fine it worked well small teams like isreal and el salvador qualified so it wasnt exclusive to the big boys. -------------------------------------------- personally I thought the 24-team format gave the best group games because sides could still qualify in third, and you could get through with one win. the current format almost forces negativity because teams are scared to lose their first game (even if Spain bucked a trend and won it) if they must persist with a group format I would do it differently. if it has to be four sides in eight groups, then let the top three go through, with the top side getting a bye and the second and third going to a preliminary ko. or take 24 teams in four groups of six with the top four qualifying. anything to free up the teams and allow them to lose without fear |
