Seriously how on earth can England be favs for this match?  Take away all the hype and they were distinctly average today.  They really needed a 2 goal win a gainst a s hit side but could only manage 1.

Germany will destroy this England side.

Just made me sick but i had to back Ger at that price. Might soften the blow a little on Sunday. Hopefully England will make a mockery of my negativity.

This is how england are favs. A market is basically made up of demand and supply. While the demand is there to back england at ridiculously short prices then the knowledgeable football layer will be more than happy with a big broad smile on their faces to relieve the mug of their hard earned.

Come up with a credible reason why you think England are more likely to win than Germany and I'll happily back you.
My opinion is based on the quality of play shown by both teams so far in this competition.

England have been (largely) poor, but have (occasionally) created a few very good pieces of play. Yes, the finishing is a concern (they should have beaten Slovenia 3 or 4-0), but they clearly have the ability to put a good game together pretty soon.

Germany, on the other hand, have finished well, but have also been shown to be relatively weak at the back and in midfield. This, really, really, is not a very good German side. England should definitely be favourites, just not by much.

Should be a close game, but I think England should be confident of progressing.

Now this is what I don't see, or to be clearer I see differently.

Germany 3 decent performances.  Ghana tonight were a good side, and I think they will show this by knocking out the USA.

England 3 poor performances.  The one I think was the most telling was todays game.  Get away from the hysteria of winning and what do you actually have.  They knew they really needed to win this game by 2 or more, they didn't do that.
They have scored 2 goals against poor opposition in 3 games. Now you expect them to go against what even you must agree, is a far better side and score probably at least 2 to win.
Just my opinion and to be honest even I would agree that that doesn't amount to much. ;-)

well for one england play better against the big names, and havnt had the rub of the green in their exit matches imo since 96,

96 pens v eventual winners
98 red and pens
00 ok ill give u that one, bit of a farce
02 freak goal/genius goal v eventual winners
04 disallowed goal and pens
06 red and pens

i also disagree that ghana are some amazing side, i reckon usa are a better side than ghana, who cant even score unless they get a penalty.

england v germany will be a cracker, as i said i see a coin flip, though germany cant improve as much as england can

hearts, not surprisinly you are being a touch biased. i do agree tho eng have bee poor overall but they played ok  v slovenia. the fact they failed to score a second goal doesnt change the overall view of the game. if rooneys shot goes in off the post or defoe takes that second chance  you  are saying it changes things so much.in reality we beat a pretty moderate side 1-0 but with a touch of fortune it coulda been 3 or 4.the germans did beat beat the aussies easily and in fairness the game was wrapped up well before the sending off but clearly  that made it so easy for them to continuallycsarve thru  afterwards.personlyy i think nearly all knock out matches are pretty much coin flips (please dont quote something like  brazil v denmark. i thought before thecomp started we could win por lose to anyone in a one off game , my view has not changed at all.

I think England are too short - but I will be reserving the 'no bet' option for this one - who needs a bet with this game if you're an England supporter??

However, although they are a little short, it's not that far out - I love the way each of our opponents have been knocked - that same 'weak' Slovenia side knocked out Russia over two legs to get here. Would they also have been a 'weak' side if we'd beaten them. If the Germans had beaten them, they would have been world class of course........

M8 I'm not being biased.  I am going over to the final and have extra tickets that would be worth a few quid should England make it.  Pre torunament I really fancied England to do well.
You mention that England were unlucky not to score more.  What if when the ball hit Defoes shin it had went over the bar instead of into the goal 0-0. ;-)  I'm not making any judgments on any pre world cup form.  Simply judging on what I see here and now.
Good luck to England.  If you can rediscover the old form then it could be a great night for yi.

England were half the price of Germany outright pre tournament (partly due to being perceived to be better and partly because of their easier draw).  Germany have been the more impressive of the 2 sides pushing the prices closer together.  Anyone claiming there is a clear favourite, or claiming one side is much better than the other is exaggerating.

However the really clueless are those that believe England are too short every time they play because of "mug English money."

I do not know how somebody think that German is the better side. Even here in Germany many people are very cautious. Germany has some very good player esp. in  the midfield but the defense is a huge concern (esp. in the middle), Badstuber a weak link and Germany has no really good striker. Klose is in Munich the 3rd or 4th in the depth chart.

And some poster seem to forget that even yesterday Germnay was simply lucky that Ghana did not shot the first goal and had even too many chances that Germnay can claim it controlled the game.

i'm a gambler and I support what I see as good value
have bet germany to win the tournament before it started with a back up of netherlands and savers on Brazil, Spain, Argies and Italy (!).
Nowt on us 'cos we ain't very good.
Where does all the hype come from?
Its's the newspapers talking us up just so as they can smash us down when we fail.
Every German player has a better first touch than any of our blokes.
They were excellent against Aussies, excellent (with only 10 men!) against Serbia, not so good in the Ghana game and excellent again today.
We were sh!te against everyone except for Slovenia and we even struggled with them early on.

People say we underperform....I say we perform to the limit of our abilities.
Will anyone ever realise that?
If the other team is (far) too good for you then you need to accept that rather than try to apportion blame.
