It should also be remembered that the one win they did achieve was down to a Russian linesman who only just over 20 years earlier had lost half his family to the Nazis tbf.

good point bally.
Engand are indeed in that elite group of nations who have won a world cup. must make you proud eh? thanks for bringing that one up old chum. |

One World Cup?? No Euros??
How many Brazil, Germany, Italy, France, Argies got? Why have England been so poor for a nation of 60m??? Seriously? For a country that reckons they own football....I mean you cant even get the tournament to return to your home nation since 1966...probably cos no one would want to hear about it for the next 44 years in the unlikely event they won it right enough.... Should stick to other sports you're good at it...like erm.....erm..... |

For someone who hates England, you sure go on about them a lot.
What would you do if (okay it's a big if) England actually won the thing? Jump in front of a fast moving train? |
|
By:
I dont think i've much to worry about to be honest....
|
|

England certainly have a chance of winning this wc. all depends on how they handle it psychologically. historically they just believed in themselves enough.
similar to the dutch in many respects. |

paddydoyle still seething about TERRY HENRY FOOTBALLING LEGEND
![]() |
|
By:
Don't laugh but I think England can win this. Granted they were rubbish against the US but I think they'll still qualify and are in with a shout.
|
|
By:
Incidentally, Thierry Henry is a complete and utter f*(&%%&g b*&%(%x.
Well hated and deservedly so. |

But one World Cup win is more than most countries have.
England have won one from 18 World Cups and none from 13 Euro's. In fact only one final in 31 major tournaments and that was when every game was played at the home stadium. England should be (and are rightly) proud of the World Cup win but at the same time should not expect to win these major tournaments. Talk of 'semi-finals at least' is very arrogant. 'At least'!......Why? |
|
By:
Its not 1 from 18 world cups is it? England didnt bother taking it seriously until 1962.
Its nothing to do with how big the nation is, you jocks keep banging on about a country of 60m. If it was down to that surely Russia should win it most of the time, and the draw against 550m population USA dosnt seem so bad after all. |
|
By:
And Spain have won it how many times ?? YSFC
|
|
By:
But its not about population though. Russia and the USA dont expect to win the World Cup. They dont think they have got the right to just turn up and win it. Yes it is one from 18 world cups.
|

By:
Its a myth that England expects to win the world cup. I think if we get past the quarters weve done well. Thats not arrogant, we have a squad of 23 who all play week in week out in the best league in the world (the league which has sent the most players to the world cup by a mile). We have players who regularly finish in FIFAs top 10 player of the year and european player of the year. John Terry for eg has been UEFA defender of the year the last two seasons hasnt he?
End of the day you celts are green with envy, you might aswell pack it in and play in your own junior cup with Andorra, Malta and Greenland. Maybe then you might have a hope of winning instead of just hoping england dont. |
|
By:
considering they stroll about as if they own football.
"Football's coming home" Brazil, Argentina, Italy, France, Germany...how many stars they got to their name then engerland fans? in the case of the froggies just the 1 on home soil exactly the same as england |
|
By:
if england are so sh#t and worthless why do all these taffs/fenians/paddy's & jocks spend 10 hours a day coming on forums slagging the nation off? obviously folk with very little going on in there own live's. You never see much positives been talked about there own nations on here apart talking about us. All seem to have a deep rooted hatred for anything English, pathetic if you ask me.

"Thinly veiled i still can't handlebeing knocked out a thierry henry basketball dribble & dunk"
ANYWAY west auckland won the world cup twice also so in affect we've won it three times |

Football is a working class game in England. In 1966 they had a bigger working class. Most now go to university. Less players now equals less chance now.

no team will ever win anything (or deserve to win anything) with emile heskey in there team,im from ireland and dont mind seeing england win,ive nothing against them, and people who do are i.d,i,o,t,s because for 9 months of every year 95% of non english people support an english club,be it man united, liverpool, chelsea, arsenal etc etc,so they contradict themselves, anyway,i honestly dont think england have a good enough squad to get anywhere near winning the world cup.you's havent got a half decent keeper, glen johnson cannot defend, great at going forward but cant defend, john terry is not as good as he once was, jamie carragher, well my grandad is faster than him, ashley cole is hot and cold too inconsistent.aaron lennon good player but no end product, gerrard and lampard never turn up for england in the same form as they do for there respective clubs, james milner is over-rated and rubbish imo, emile heskey, well ive seen better players down my local park on a sunday morning, rooney like lampard and gerrard never plays as well for england as he does for his club,3 players that should be in the squad but are'nt,adam johnson-would provide good balance to the left hand side which england have lacked for a long time, ashley young and gabrial agbonlahor should also be in the squad certaunly ahead of milner and heskey, why capello feels the need to play emile heskey against the likes of the usa is baffeling,de foe and rooney up front for the remaining two group games and you's be guaranteed goals
|

By:
i don't expect us to win the thing and not many i know think we will although we all live in hope, infact i've laid england.
If we win our group we will go out in the quarters, if we come second we will go out against the germans in the first knockout stage |

All the countries, know our weakness's and strengths, simply beacuase our Premier League, is a foreign league, so there's at least 1-6 players from each country, that knows each players faults. Lets kid rid of all the oversea's/foreign players in the prem league, who are vastly overpaid and bring some English/British players into our clubs. It might not win us a world cup, but it would help to have young English lads getting a game, instead of overpaid foreigners
