They can't, can they? But do you really want them to?
What is really frustrating is that lots of England supporters seem genuinely impressed with the likes of Spain,Argentina and how Germany played last night, and yet I've been at Wembley on several occasions when fans are shouting for the players to "Get it forward" when they pass it across the back 4.
Even playing at Sunday league level almost every player wants to pass the ball forwards, with possession being exchanged every 10 seconds, so the disease has a hold from top to bottom.
I don't think technique is the issue, just the same old English mentality, regardless of who is the coach.

Could be right, and if thats the case we shall never win a top tournament unless we change.
Hoofing it to a big man gives the opposition more of a chance of regaining possession, having players that can play the ball to each other and keep it for longer periods gives more possession and creates more chances imo.
We have to try and do that now,and if we do we give ourselves more chance of success. If we carry on with that we watched on Saturday,we may not even qualify for next stage!!

Take out Heskey, play Gerrard further forward and bring Barry in alongside Lampard.Put J Cole on the left,Lennon on the right, and lets let these players actually get the chance to prove thenmselves!! We are supposed to have a real good set of players,so give them the platform that they need to fulfill their potential at this level.Rooney dont play with a big man for UTD,nor does Gerrard at Liverpool,so let them play Football and lets see what happens.

Trouble is, a lot see England's high tempo play as an asset. These players have been brought up on it, I don't see any change likely in the near or distant future!

FR the sad thing for me is if they actually wanted to i think they could play ala spain brazil and argentina, needs to change if they're ever to compete at this level

Those that see it as an asset at the top level are totally wrong, and no big tournament win since 1966 backs that up imo

i think it wasnt only green who made a mistake the other night, why didnt capello bring carrick in for barry and believe that we can play our way through against USA? if its heskey again on friday we might as well put jack charlton in charge

heskey   rooney the obvious combination up front, with joe cole the fall back option for heskey.

passing it around the back four is not keeping possession; as soon as the ball is closed down its back to the keeper or lumped up field directly and lost either way.  teams with better technique keep the ball anywhere on the pitch, England only manage it when not under pressure.
