Well I am going to be running this competition for the World Cup. Betfair have very kindly set aside £500 in prize money with the top 5 recieving the prizes.
Here's how the competition works. Predict the outcome of all matches throughout the World Cup. You will enter all the results for the group stage before plotting the course of the whole World Cup.
You will score points for selecting the correct match winner, the correct score and the correct final group standings.
Scoring:
20 pts - predicting correct match winner
50 pts - predicting correct score
25 pts - predicting each countries correct final group position
100 pts - predicting correct winner of the tournament

So, this is the template to use when filling out your entry. Obviously replace all of the winner titles with the country that you think will occupy that place. This means that not all competitiors will score points on each match because if you wrongly precict for example who will win Group A then you will not have the correct fixture for the knockout round. Only fixtures where you have the correct two countries involved in will you be able to score points.
The tie-break is used for people with the same number of overall points. Whoever is the closest to the overall number of tournament goals will fill the higher place in the table.
Entries must be made before the start of the first match of the tournament which is South Africa v Mexico on Friday.

Yes it certainly could make all the difference. It appears that as long as the right teams are in the right match it doesn't matter who they beat in previous rounds, but I'm not clear on this.

No apologies necessary, entirely my fault. I've found that not all lines are resetting themselves fully when I tell the spreadsheet to rank everybody in order, so some people's listed predictions are actually from somebody else's line. I had been checking this before posting, but alcohol induced expediency meant that I cut a few corners in the last few days. I'll recheck all predictions and points totals now.

right guys im back. really really sorry i have not been around whilst problems have arisen. i must again apologise for this and especially to crumb.
anyway i know this may cause problems and people will be angry about my decision but this is what i had chosen at the start of the competition.
points should not be scored for the germany v england game if you had germany as group runners up and england as group winners because this is not what happened.
this is because when completing the template you will have had england v germany in the place of group c winners v group d runners-up and that is not what happened.
you must have predicted the group position correctly in order to score points for a given match.
this is the rule throughout the whole of the competition. you must have correctly predicted the certain match that they would actually take part in.
i hope this clears everything up and hope that no more problems arise. if they do i will make sure that i spend a lot more time on here so that i can clear it up.

Actually i've just read your post again (its early!). For you to get 70pts it would have to be 2-2 after 90mins. If it was 1-1 after 90mins and 2-2 after 120mins I think you only get 20pts
