Yes it certainly could make all the difference. It appears that as long as the right teams are in the right match it doesn't matter who they beat in previous rounds, but I'm not clear on this. Would like to hear from brownie on this - I'll put up a thread calling him if he doesn't appear soon |

No apologies necessary, entirely my fault. I've found that not all lines are resetting themselves fully when I tell the spreadsheet to rank everybody in order, so some people's listed predictions are actually from somebody else's line. I had been checking this before posting, but alcohol induced expediency meant that I cut a few corners in the last few days. I'll recheck all predictions and points totals now.
It's pretty cr@p to watch a match wanting a goal to be scored/not scored to blow your rival's prediction and subsequently find that the prediction had been wrongly listed. My fault. Sorry. |

Biggest apology is to TAKE ME OUT whose points total is correct despite being led by me to believe otherwise. Sorry! right guys im back. really really sorry i have not been around whilst problems have arisen. i must again apologise for this and especially to crumb.
anyway i know this may cause problems and people will be angry about my decision but this is what i had chosen at the start of the competition. points should not be scored for the germany v england game if you had germany as group runners up and england as group winners because this is not what happened. this is because when completing the template you will have had england v germany in the place of group c winners v group d runners-up and that is not what happened. you must have predicted the group position correctly in order to score points for a given match. this is the rule throughout the whole of the competition. you must have correctly predicted the certain match that they would actually take part in. i hope this clears everything up and hope that no more problems arise. if they do i will make sure that i spend a lot more time on here so that i can clear it up. |

Fortunately, that's how I've been allocating points in the comp. I also think it's the only way that makes sense and it is pretty clear that that's what you meant in your rules. I've really enjoyed it and the whole family - all 7 of us - has got involved in our own version... sorry to report that I'm currently a distant second to the 9 year old! Have a few ideas for similar comps in the future. Will work on them and post about them soon. GL all |

Yes, that's what I was thinking TMO.
First thoughts include... The simplicity of the current comp is part of its success for me, so I wouldn't want to alter the format dramatically, but points could be varied according to the score. For example, a correct score prediction of 1-0 would earn fewer points than a 2-0, which would earn considerably fewer than a 3-3 etc. I'm working on stats to come up with a proposed points system covering all scores. Overall comp to run for the whole season, with smaller monthly or every 50 or 100 games comps along the way. If people would agree to a prediction deadline of say midnight every Sunday for all of the following week's games, processing and posting of updated points tables could be achieved very quickly after most games finish. I'll post more details of my thoughts soon. All ideas very welcome. |
