Chelsea v Man U April 2006, Rooney breaks metatarsal before World Cup

Of the other players that day, Essien, Ferdinand, Drogba are already out of the World Cup and now Robben has an injury too.  Is there some sort of vengeful curse arising from that game?  Are any other players in danger?  Is it totally random or did those recently injured not sign Rooney's plaster cast or send him a card?  What is going on?
