.........the semi-finals of the WC will consist of two teams from groups A to D and two teams from groups E to H. I'm sure, looking at the planner, that this has to be the case, but if one of you intelligent folk can confirm this I'd be much obliged.

If you think none of the below teams are going to make the semis you are correct. I would suggest your sadly mistaken!

OP - you are wrong

Top half of draw consists of A1, B2, C1, D2, E1, F2, G1, H2

Bottom half consists of A2, B1, C2, D1, E2, F1, G2, H1

So the 2 teams which qualify from each group can ONLY meet again in the final (or 3rd place play-off obviously)

You are correct in your statement, the semi finals will consist of two teams from A-D and two teams from E-H.

This will take the form of one team from A-D v one team from E-H, and the other one team from A-D playing the other team from E-H.

The first reply doesn't make sense and the second reply has misunderstood your question.

Oh yeah .... it's all clear now

I took it that he thought that one semi will be contested by 2 teams from A-D and the other semi by 2 teams from E-H

Time for bed methinks!
