I'm already going to the WC, ive got 4 group game tickets and a quarter final. It cant come soon enough!! But...on the website, it shows a list of all the games and what tickets are left. Each category of ticket has 'currently not available' or 'few tickets available' or 'available'. Ive seen tickets that werent available change to being available, my question is, what are the odds of some category 3 tickets opening up for a semi or even the final??? That'd be a dream come true.
Also, a question for people that have been to World Cups and maybe Euro Comps b4, are there heaps of people selling tickets outside the ground (scalping)? Do they charge ridiculous prices?
Cosmo, I have been to the last 2 WC's but only dealt with touts/scalpers in 2002 in Japan. I definitely felt that the entire black market was being run by one concern - it stank of corruption. There will definitely be a premium if high profile teams are involved. From memory the final went for $1200 while the Brazil-England quarter went for about a grand, possibly $800. I remember trying to find a ticket for the England game about a mile from the stadium. I waited until near kick off but was horrified to see a tout rip up his remaining tickets rather than sell them at lower prices to the people who were still there.
South Africa will be completely different as there is a new category of tickets only available to local residents. I have South African friends who have bought tickets for certain matches hoping to sell these on to foreign fans. There will undoubtedly be a problem if the organizers stick to their plan to check people's ids. I dont think we are going to know if they actually adhere to this policy until the tournament begins.
I am going to the tournament myself and will definitely let people know in this forum what transpires wrt this policy.
