5/2 for Brazil isn't that bad. When you consider they have won 5 out of the last 13.How many have Spain won. 0 out of 18. Obviously it's not as straight forward as this, but this is a big factor.Even England are in front of Spain. It's been proven time and time again over the last 80 years only a handful of teams have the ability to win it.This year may be different, but I doubt it.

Spain have never won the world cup but they have a better team than they ever have, I don't read too much into past world cups. At the end of the day if the team is good enough they will win.
What you have got to ask yourself is that, is there a better team in the world than Spain that are going to the world cup?
At the moment imo there is not.

Once you get to the knockout stage, anyone of 8 teams or more could easily beat them on their day in a one off match.
"Massive Value" PMSL.
Delighted there are people who think like this on here though :D

I'm happy to lay Spain and Brazil. It's a knock-out tournament, luck is needed to win. As such, both are priced too short. Argentina were far and away the best team in 2006 and look what happened to them - dumped out in the qfs.

I admit I went OTT with massive value, but I can't see how you can argue with my point.
At the end of the day, Spain are the best team in the world at the moment and won ALL their qualifying games in impressive style, current European Champions, strong in every position and considering only a handful of teams can win it then 9/2 is a very fair price imo.
It seems to me like a few mugs like chop on here are thinking about betting teams and hoping for the best.

That's right, I'm a mug LOL, complete mystery how I make a profit from football betting and poker every single year, isn't it ?:|
(here's a clue, it doesn't involve backing 9/2 favourites in football cup competitions ;) )

Clarky and big bucks. Form is not enough. Time and again Spain have proved they are not good enough. Might do it this time, but they are not a good price. As some one has already said don't forget Argentina in the last world Cup and also Holland in 74.Probably the best team, but didn't win.

Yeah but sunset, Spain have never had such a good team as they do now, its alright saying they time and again they have proved they can't win it but to me that is just a fairly meaningless stat, u could have said the same about France before '98.

if the world cup was in spain this year 9/2 would be a terrible price.
the fact that it is in some south african jungle somewhere makes the

Big bucks there is a big difference with France. They had home advantage. Time and again this has proved to be decisive. You only have to look at the past results. There our only 5 teams that have ever won this with out home advantage. And 1 of them hasn't qualified.Spain could win , but I make them a 14/1 chance.Imo there is a 90% chance that the winner will come from these 4 teams. Brazil,Italy, Germany or Argentina will win.

Spain probably do have their best ever team, but this was said about Argentina 4 years ago. People have short memory's.Also Holland had their best ever team in 74, but they didn't win they lost to the Germans. Also in 2002 there was many saying the German team wasn't good enough, but they nearly won it.

Whether they win it or not to say they should be 14/1 is stupid. So you are wrong already
i dont want to discuss wheter they shud be 3/1 or 14/1. but the argument you use is too simple, bordering stupidity. so according to you you cant never say things like: "i think house prices will drop 5-10% from here" " sterling shud be stronger against the euro" " fancy apple share to hit 300 dlrs this yr" because in all the cases case, house prices, sterling or the stocks are all at the right price, ie 100% of current price. same goes for commenting on prices of shoes, groceries and anything else.
rethink what you wanted to say exactly and retype, plse.

90% those four + 6.67% Argentina. Holy Cow, what price the rest?

FWIW I think Spain are the biggest lay of the whole tournament, closely followed by Brazil. I think we may well see our first big shock of the modern WC era.

About what? there are none sunset, because they are an excellent football team with strength in every position, won ALL their qualifying games. They also went an incredibleworld record 35 games in a 3 year spell winning 32 matches and drawing the other 3, only once conceding more than one goal in a game against Greece in a friendly. In this period they scored 73 goals an conceded 11. They also hold the world record for consecutive wins (15).
I'm starting to think their current odds are generous.

If Spain are such a good team why did the USA beat them in the confederations cup?Spain will probably have a good run in the World Cup. Might even get to the finals, but I still think the odds of the winning it are against them. Don't forget France were considered to be a so called good thing in 2002.When Spain set these World records for consecutive wins did they actually beat any one that was any good?

The difference this time is that Spain won the Euros. Previously you could see that they didn't have the belief. This time they do. I would price them at 5/2-3/1 as they are the best team by far and if it was a league I would have them at evens. 9/2 is a good price.

I really don't know how USA managed to beat Spain, I guess they are entitled to an off day though, I don't think it is a competition that is taken too seriously.
I just personally think this Spanish team at the moment is the best of my generation and in a way I hope they win the world cup (barring miracles of England winning it) because they deserve it and are a joy to watch.

AIDSMcGUG I bet you would have said that about any one that thought the USA would beat Spain. To win at this game you have go against the crowd. Don't follow the other 99% of the sheep because they loose.

If i`m predicting a shock we`re talking 25s or bigger. Serbia qualified well, they seem solid and have a mix of experience and youth. Don`t know if Rafa`s interest in Milan Jovanovic is a good thing! Group is not easy but they should be capable of qualifying.

I would certainly agree with the point you started the thread with BBJ i.e. about England's price being very short by comparison with Spain's price.
Spain have been a joy to watch over the last couple of years. I hope the playing surfaces in SA are good enough to do that standard of football justice. It could be a WC that particularly suits the hard working, well organised sides that thrive on a high energy game. I could see sides like the USA and South Korea doing better than their current odds would imply, without being quite good enough to go all the way.
Spain have enough star players to outclass most of their potential opposition, but perhaps it should be asked how many of those stars will be fully fit and mentally ready for the WC after experiencing two years of very intensive international and club football, without having much of an off-season at all in which to recuperate during that time? Quite a few of the Spanish stars are carrying injury niggles at present. It is a similar story for many of the other sides in the WC, particularly the European teams, but the lack of much recuperation time for the Spanish players over the last two summers could be especially telling.
Serbia have crept under the radar a bit, particularly given how well they qualified for the Finals. I am not sure they should be, for example, almost three times the price of Portugal for the winner market on here, or almost four times the price of France. Neither Portugal or France were particularly impressive in qualifying.

This is my point though. the difference between winners and losers. Winners don't have off days or at least hardly ever when it comes to the really big games. When they need to perform they nearly always pull in out of the bag. This is the difference between Brazil, Italy and Germany and the likes of England, Spain and Holland. They have flattered to deceive to many times and usually find a way of losing.Who won the confederation Cup last year was in Spain No .it was Brazil one of the usual suspects again.
I just personally think this Spanish team at the moment is the best of my generation and in a way I hope they win the world cup (barring miracles of England winning it) because they deserve it and are a joy to watch.
I wish Spain all the luck in the world. I think they might need it.Another thing about Spain is they are crap at penalties. Even England managed to beat Spain at penalties. They also won the European championship in 1964 and of course we know they didn't win the world cup 2 years later.England did. This is one trend that I do hope holds up even though it will cost me money.

I'd much rather take the 5/2 not to qualify for the second round than the unbelievably optimistic 11/2 outright to win the world cup (after a first match defeat) they are now.

spain win the world cup, imo. no torres for most of the game. dominated 100% and lost. switzerland defended excellently, honduras and chile wont. and for that matter neither will brazil. spain took the swiss for granted and were careless at the back going for goals, which they wont need to do once they get to the knock out stages.

and no i havent backed them, i havent backed anybody. there are about 10 teams who could win it, its not something id have any interest in betting on. but at the prices, if i had to back, id back spain even now.

No team that has lost it's first match has gone onto win the World Cup. There has been over 300 first matches in all the World Cups. That's some record they've got to buck.

Nice to see the team with the best players win the WC.They proved they had the bottle to win a big tournament 2 years ago and were full of CH league winners to boot. Some people chose to ignore that and use the fact that they had never won the WC before and had bottled it occasionally.Glad i chose to ignore that poor reasoning and realised that this Spain team is the best they have had.Yes they had a bit of luck on the way,but overall they were the best side and well deserved it.
Well done Spain

Good call. Didn't think the Spaniards had the guts/belief for it and backed the Dutch and Germans at the QF stage to go all the way. But totaly agree that the best and most talented team won in the end, which is satisfying and just.
