"I think England have got major problems - obviously in goal, at centre-forward and now at centre-back too, so right down the spine of the team. Unless they can eradicate those problems, it's very difficult to see how they can go on and win the World Cup."

agree with most of that. centre backs are fine apart from terry's lack of pace which will be a major issue against the top teams. i think he should play gerrard or joe cole up front behind rooney, hesky just aint gonna cut it. and just hope a goalkeeper comes from somewhere cos right now it looking desperate. james would probable be the safest option, and that says it all. but really england's best chance is hoping rooney is bang on form.

rooney is a very good player but the only player to (more or less ) single handedly win a world cup was maradona, and rooney is no maradona.

Rooney England's only top class palyer
ashley cole and lampard not that far behind. the rest of them are dross.

if only Scotland had the same problems

none of the other 31 countries possess a collection of goalkeepers as shambolic as james, robinson, carson, foster and green. it's frightening enough to have just one of this lot in a world cup squad, let alone three.

England will take 4 strikers to the World Cup. 3 of them are not their renowned for goalscoring. The one who is renowned for his prowess in front of goal cracked under pressure in a mid-table clash at Goodison Park.

renowned for his prowess in front of goal? hope you're not talking about defoe.

Cole (A) is useless. His wifes alright though.

cashley, despite being a **** of a person, is probably the best left-back in the competition. one of the few positions where we're stronger than most of our rivals. only spain and germany come close (capdevilia and lahm are good, but cole is better).

evra is the best left back in the world-without any doubt
Report euro_anchor December 6, 2009 11:57 PM GMT
Yeh I agree Evra is the best LB, I think 4 strikers is enough as we can have plenty of midfielders who could play up front if needed. Ferdinand worries me, has been very poor when he has been fit this season.
