Just because I am bored and wanted to work out the theoretically strongest possible groups down to the theoretically weakest, (if odds are equal it goes on how many bookies offer them): -

Pot 1: -

1. Spain 5.5
2. Brazil 5.6
3. England 7.5
4. Argentina 12
5. Holland 13
6. Germany 13
7. Italy 15
8. South Africa 151

Pot 2: -

1 Australia 101
2. USA 126
3. Mexico 126
4. Japan 251
5. South Korea 301
6 Honduras 501
7. North Korea 2001
8. New Zealand 2501

Pot 3: -

1. Ivory Coast 29
2. Chile 51
3. Paraguay 67
4. Ghana 81
5. Cameroon 126
6. Uruguay 151
7. Nigeria 151
8. Algeria 501

Pot 4:-

1. France 19
2. Portugal 21
3. Serbia 67
4. Denmark 101
5. Greece 151
6. Switzerland 151
7. Slovakia 251
8. Slovenia 301

Giving strongest hypothetical group as: -

Spain,
Australia,
Ivory Coast,
France.

Weakest: -

South Africa,
New Zealand,
Algeria,
Slovenia.

........ well that's that 20 minutes sorted before the footy! :)

Your weakest group is impossible imo.

Hope this helps
Report Jim Royle December 2, 2009 7:16 PM GMT
why impossible? are they keeping African teams apart?
Report I think so December 2, 2009 7:18 PM GMT
I believe so
Report Jason Bourne December 2, 2009 7:20 PM GMT
Possible, rule states only that there must be teams from 3 different continents.

From Previous World Cups a group will contain a max of 2 European sides with the other continents avoiding each other.

e.g. Argentina and Brazil won't draw Paraguay, Uruguay or Chile.

Has this changed?
Report I think so December 2, 2009 9:36 PM GMT
"Geographical criteria will also be respected, meaning that no two teams from the same confederation will be drawn in the same group (except European teams, where a maximum of two will be in a group).

"For example, South Africa cannot play the African teams from pot three and Argentina and Brazil cannot be drawn against the three remaining South American teams."
Report Kingo December 2, 2009 9:37 PM GMT
No, that's the way it works. Brazil/Arg can't draw South American teams and South Africa can't draw an African team.

fact!

Slovenia may surprise a few.
