Okay I will say before going into this thread I lumped on USA and Norway at 7+ and cant remember for Norway so am playing with some green.

However, USA is 1.1ish to top the table currently on 23 medals. There are approx 20 events left and with germany just 9 medals short and norway 12 short, I cannot believe that USA will not lengthen if Germany especially get a 1/2 finish and USA misfire in a few events. Will be looking to trade out at about evens but I feel the price has been pushed down by the belief that because one team for a country is performing well, all competitors from that country are expected to do better...

Just a thought but at 1.1ish its a cheap one. Personally am 1k+ on all selections but have tipped my book for a flip/flop on the USA at some point.

wasting your money laying US even at 1.08 now ! they're certs to pickup another half dozen medals, it's game over. where are the germans gonna get 15 from ?

I have it 33 to 28 assuming the germans win 2 in the men's bob. A lot of the events left are team events so not much scope for a turnaround. Hardly any events where the Germans and Americans are competing for the same medals either. Only bobsleigh and nordic combined. Virtually a done deal imo

Thats assuming that everyone wins as they should. Basically im looking at the flu epidemic kind of scenario. Dont mind USA winning and I'm sure they will, but would be happy if they slipped for a couple of days or so they go out in the market

USA 24
Germany 21
Norway 14

Its getting very close. It's clearly a striaght fight between USA and Germany, but I have to admit I'm not quite sure who I think is favourite now. I thought the US were about 1.14 shots before tonights action - but with quite a few team events coming it's hard to rule out the German machine from picking up quite a few more podiums. The US Alpine skiing team has just overproduced and that may be their main hope of hanging on in addition to a probable Figure Skating medal tonight and 2 Ice Hockey medals. Also notice US team are fav for a Nordic combined event. There are chances for both teams to medal in 2 Bobseigh events (particularly Germans), Short Track & Speed Skating. Thre are some real unknowns for me in Snowboard & Freestyle Skiing, but I would guess US may be slightly favoured their - though betting suggests these are very open in the main.

I'm beginning to wonder about the most Golds winner as well - again probably a striaght battle between US and Germany. Amazed Canada have been consistantly backed so short (they look way under priced to me, but maybe somebody knows something) they will be doing well to win 1 Gold out of the 2 Ice Hockey and 2 Curling events IMO - 2 would be a real result for them. Norway look more realistic outsiders to me, but they are 16/1 shots IMO. I have US as winners, but Germany are certainly dangers with 2 Bobsleigh events still to come and the team events also. Havin said that the Bobsleligh events may be a lot tighter and US are well placed in the betting, for both, along with Canada in womens. I think US will get at least 1 Gold in Ice Hockey, at least 1 in Alpine Skiing, then 2 or 3 more here and there. 10-15 is 90% likely for me - 12 in total If I had to put an exact figure on it. The Germans are going to find that very tough to beat or match 12 and I'd have them 90% likely to get 9-13 Golds

But then there's a lot of guess work involved in this for me....

For Today:

Germany are Fav for Womens 4x6K Bialthlon - medal looks very likely going on the betting and the way the machine performed in team events yesterday. However time penalties can give suprise results. Norway probably cant be discounted totally

Nordic Combined - US favourites (Evs) !! Germany and Norway are also prominent in betting

Mens Giant Slalom (2 runs) has over 100 competitors - US the form team with 2 strong challangers, Norway at least 1 strong challenger, Germans only 1 big outsider, Canada have been absymal in Alpine and cant see that changing here - but betting is 6/1 the field

Womens Ski Cross - Canada have 2nd-5th in betting (all 6/1+), but France have quite a strong fav in betting and form I gather. Norway have 4 competitors and Germany 3, US donr have any - a suprise. Only 35 competitors in total.

Men's 10K looks like none of the big countries have a chance unless you consider South Korea for most Golds

good round up desertrat. Whats everyone thoughts on Germany or USA getting 4 out of 6 medals in the bobsleigh today and thursday? Both have three teams in each and are always quite formidable
Report jacob_TA February 23, 2010 6:51 PM GMT
I think they'll probably either get 1 each in both, or germany get 2 in the mens

Have decided to rearrange my book across the course of tonight/tomorrow

Currently:

USA: + 1030.21
Norway: + 1760
Rest of the field: +1349

Pretty even I know but reckon USA could go plus 2s as originally stated so might aim for a no loss on the rest of the field and all profit on USA to square up at a later date when they stretch out ahead. All depends how their faves get on tonight!
