Thought i would try and generate some interest in this system i have put together.
The system uses ranking points as its base, with additional points being won or lost, dependant on what the diffrerence in ranking is of the 2 players playing each other.
Ie Del Potro has stormed up the rankings as he was winning lots of additional points while ranked 400+, 200+ & 100+, now in the top 50 he will stabilise as he has to win against players of equal ranking now.
Raonic is much the same and his ranking may too be artificial while he finds his proper place in the top 50.
Karlovic has also had a couple of good weeks and so makes the top 20.
Current Top 20 Men as of today =
1 6513 points DJOKOVIC, Novak SRB
2 2645 DEL POTRO, Juan Martin ARG
3 2547 FEDERER, Roger SUI
4 2467 FERRER, David ESP
5 2194 RAONIC, Milos CAN
6 2061 DOLGOPOLOV, Alexandr UKR
7 2054 NADAL, Rafael ESP
8 1998 WAWRINKA, Stanislas SUI
9 1789 ROBREDO, Tommy ESP
10 1722 ALMAGRO, Nicolas ESP
11 1714 MURRAY, Andy GBR
12 1599 BERDYCH, Tomas CZE
13 1300 SODERLING, Robin SWE
14 1223 SIMON, Gilles FRA
15 1215 TROICKI, Viktor SRB
16 1205 GASQUET, Richard FRA
17 1179 ANDERSON, Kevin RSA
18 1137 RODDICK, Andy US
19 1064 KARLOVIC, Ivo CRO
20 1021 CILIC, Marin CRO
The system is formated into an excel spreadsheet and has a number of totals that you can sort on.
Last 12 weeks totals, last 12 weeks totals per tourni played, ytd totals, ytd totals per tourni played and then last 12 weeks by surface & ytd by surface.
The big difference is that the system gives credit or otherwise for who you beat and who you get beat by.
These differences also get bigger points margins dependant on the ranking points available per tournament. Ie Slams gives a much greater benefit to someone like Hernych who beat Istomin & Bellucci before falling to Soderling. So where he only picked up 160 ranking points for reaching Rnd 3, he added 320 points for beating Bellucci, likewise Bellucci lost an equal amount of points for losing to someone outside the top 200 at the time.
I have refined the system over the 14 weeks of this years play and now include all results from all ATP & WTA tournis as well as all ATP Challengers and ITF tournis over £35k prize money.
Some 632 ATP players are now listed and 371 WTA players, although new players bursting onto the scene such as Arruabarrena-Vecino will only show points from the only tournis she has played ie Monzon last week & Marbella this week. She is ranked 253rd with 208 ranking points by the WTA, but on my system she has got 145 points & is ranked 127th already.
Anyone who wants to have a look at the system is welcome to do so as long as you can give me some constructive critiscism back. I can e-mail you a copy and get some feed back after a week or 2.
