listened to a podcast the other night from a guy who has a channel dedicated to the mafia, he says he knows people in the mafia and is friends with people in the mafia. He says the mafia are still very much involved in fixing races or getting to jockeys in the US. True or false? What do you think?

no surprise
a near 60% strike rate for favs in many tracks, santa anita, aqueduct, golden gate etc
charlestown is the holy grail for fav backers
the only 33% percent of favs win is a myth in US racing

what has strike rate got to do with the mafia? Favs are based on form and horses are fitter and run to form more often in the States, there are far less variables at play over there.

money makes the fav as much as form ever does.
if it was all about form it would be much easier to pick winners

its 11-3 so far in favour of favs so far this evening in US racing
4 in a row at sunland, all had money come late to back them

US racing is as bent as it gets. The state of the jockeys in some races is quite a sight to behold. I spot non triers in virtually every race. Plenty of favourites get turned over at short prices with some shocking riding to help along the way

It's 10 years since it aired, but wasn't that what the HBO series (screened here possibly on Channel 4) Luck, was about?
