Am going to Breeders Cup for first time this year in Santa Anita. Anyone ever been over there? If so any advice in terms of where to stay and what nightlife is like?
Anywhere a racing crowd gathers (ideally a European racing crowd) much appreciated thanks

Ruby

went year High Chaparral dead heated (2003)

absolutely amazing trip, bc was only one day in those days went racing on the friday tho

stayed in pasadena which was ideal for me, got buses to and from track and always felt very safe, pasadena was full of students so there was plenty going on in the bars in the town centre

went to a bar near the course after racing on the friday for a handicappers seminar and this was good craic

also went to watch work on the track one morning and had breakfast there (poss the thurs or fri morning)

you will have a great time i am very jealous

hope you get a few winners!!

You're going to California and you want to go to bars frequented by European racing crowd?
Have you never met Californian girls?! (Or boys-if that's your preference)!

hello ruby, it will be my 3rd time at s.a., its a fantastic place, the people put us lot to shame, so freindly and helpful, i would stay in santa monica if i was you, nice place, lots of bars pubs etc, get a car to the track limo cos are resonable, car not a limo, or try to stay as near as you can, lots ofthat is sold out, and pricy anyway, we are having 3 days in venice beachm then three days in burbank, then 3 in vegas on way home, if you aint got ticks, dont worry, get gen admission, you can go over to the infield and stuff, ticks are very expensive, and your in the shade, can get a bit chillie, im getting spoilt again this year, we have freinds who have a leg in a runner, try and get into the tastes of the world on the friday night, we went to the one in kentucky last year, amazing.

get someone to show you how to do all the fancy bets, pick 3,4,5,6s, perms, really good fun. see you there.

I went twice ... agreed with the other posters ... absolutely amazing, especially when Zenyatta won the Classic.

I would also try to stay around Pasadena, although most places will be sold out. Santa Monica is great of course, but a long drive away from Santa Anita.

You will find a lot of Europeans in the Marriott hotel (Pasadena).

most hotels in the passadena area, and arcadia, which is closer to santa anita, will run some sort of shuttle/car service, prob about 20 bucks cab from pas, all the hotels in arcadia will be sold out, but a good idea is when you leave the track, find bj,s or get in a hotel, have a drink, when the rush has died down, get a cab, but its so well orgnized, jut a little wait for cab.
there will be people outside with tickets, not the kind of touts we have here, tickets are expensive, but i would just get general admission, which keeps you on the apron level, or go under the subway to the infield, lots of tote/food places in there, and you can still pop over to the paddock anytime, it really is a fantastic place, with nice weather in offering, and great people as well, i cant wait.
hoping fantastic moon will pay a large slice of my ex,s.
