Browsing through the results from Friday June 15 I was STAGGERED to see the time for the 5 furlong Allowance race no 8, won narrowly by Sandy Key Gal (trained by Edward Plesa Jnr) in 55.34. She ran the first half mile in 43.51, if you don't mind ... and yet she only won by a neck from Carole's Love (trained by Dale Capuano). With a time like that you'd expect the field to be strung out like Brown's cows and yet there were 6 horses within 5 lengths of the winner.
OK, I know it was the main race of the day but look back to race 4, a $22k claimer ... They've gone 5 furlongs in 56.45, with a first quarter-mile in 20.94 ... These are Claimers for God sake. Yankee Babe (trained by Timothy Shaw) ran that blistering first quarter before running 4th to Salvar (trained by Patricia Farro) Neither of these wonder animals were claimed. The whole field of 6 finished within 6 lengths of the winner.
Either there is something seriously wrong with the clock at Monmouth or these horses should be over in England taking on Black Caviar.
