The best track in California to visit. They do it up right and with Saratoga are a good summer go see. Years ago this was the best racing in the nation. Now with the synthetic surface and poorer quality stock, racing has become somewhat of a crapshoot. Go visit though ,watch the sights and sounds, I'm sure you won't regret it.

Totally agree with rink rat.....

.....except that $5.50 lemon-aid is a big rip-off Happy

Or if you are stuck in UK and you want to bet on Del Mar races - check their Youtube site out - all the races free & in full in high quality.

You can review any of this season's race 24/7 - good if you want to punt on Del Mar.

Cheers guy, yeah I think we will go and try and drive a bit of the coast road and make a day of it. Take Out Disneyland and CaTALINA ANd maybe a bit of whale watching and there is not a lot more to LA so we will defo fit in. I see there is grade one on next Saturday we will go then

You can take the train from Union Station in LA, hugs coast more than the road and stops close to the track - there is a free shuttle bus. Zenyatta due to run Saturday. Track lovely and Del Mar itself nice too but pricey.

all,
Just back this week from an amazing trip to California.

Ended up going to Del Mar twice. it was just over 2 hours from where I was. the first day I wa there was the day Zenyatta won. I have never seen such hysteria.
I was going to san Diego to stay for a few days so the second time I went was on the Wednesday which is dress down day and there is a concert in the outfield after racing.
I drove to SD, checked into my hotel and got the coaster train back out to Del Mar (about 20 minutes driving and/on the train from SD downtown.
By this stage I knew the drill (it had been a bit manic on the saturday with Zenyatta and the crowd)
Without question the best day and night at the races I have ever had. The totty had to be seen to be believed and not the usual tarts you see at the races in the UK. The palce was all class and the people so friendly. I went on my own and ended up in a big gang with the offers of beach parties and what not after the concert but I had to go back to San Diego.
The place has a mystique about it that is hard to describe so my best advice is go check it out sometime. When you are there take the time to check out all the bars and grill rooms to look at all the pictures of the likes of Bing Crosby and walt disney etc. Truly amazing and thanks to all who said it needed to be checked out
