Seems like you have to register to buy before the price is set. This seems underhand to me. (Closes Tuesday, price set Thursday 7 am)
"Institutional investors will be allowed to trade shares conditionally from Friday (11 October), while retail shareholders – ordinary members of the public – can potentially sell shares as soon as they are listed on the stock market on 15 October." Just the 4 days of trading for the Institutional investors before the members of the public then.
I will still throw a few quid at it.

How much can I apply for? As the final cost price of the shares is unknown, investors may only apply for cash amounts. The minimum application is £750 and there is no maximum. The terms of the Offer set out that investors can only apply for certain specified amounts. These amounts are as follows;

I applied for £5K worht, but seeing as the shares are x15 oversubscribed, does it mean I will get either £5k or nothing, or will I get £5k divided by 15? would I have had a better chance of getting something if I had applied 5 times for £1K? I will be a bit peeved if I get nothing, as I sold £5k of shares to free up some cash which will cost me in fees for A)selling, and then B) reinvesting in something else if I receive no Royal Mail shares...

There was talk yesterday of them giving the retail investors more shares & the institutional investors less. The government were also considering selling more than they originally intended. They have set the price at the max £3.30 and this will affect some who set a lower limit on their purchase price. (They will not get any shares)
Business Minister Michael Fallon said: 'We opened the offer up to the public so that they could have a chance to own shares in Royal Mail and have indicated that around 30per cent of shares will go to them. 'No decisions have been taken on allocation but I’m committed to making sure smaller investors get their fair share.'

I'd guess the multiple applications idea may have worked if you applied for them through different brokers. I applied through two different accounts, so I'll tell you what happens when they allocate them. I also sold some investments to have a poke at this. Since the markets are pretty nervous at the moment with the yanks s0dding about, it may not be a bad thing to sit on the sidelines for a while with some cash.

yep, the whole USA business is making me nervous... I could pay off my mortgage with what I have invested in various funds/shares, its only for the fact that my mortgage is currently at 1.25% that I haven't already done so. I would hate for it to go all T1ts up now

I have sold the majority of my investments this morning and will be largely sitting on the sidelines until some of these issues are addressed. I'm still holding a silver etc, a natural resources fund and have done some spread betting on a few individual shares to attempt to hedge their value.

yeah I thought about that, but I hate paying fees, so instead I have plumped for the 'sticking the fingers in the ears whilst shouting blah blah blah technique' when they start talking about it on the news..

If the Offer is oversubscribed how will my application be scaled back? There is information on the allocation of shares in the Prospectus. However, the final basis of allocation of shares will only be decided once the Offer has closed. We expect that the same allocation policy will be applied to all applications in the Retail Offer from members of the public, irrespective of how the application was made. If the Offer is scaled back and each broker is asked to set their own allocation policy then we will decide how shares are allocated at our sole discretion. Please note that there is no guarantee that every applicant will receive shares.
great, I bet The meglomaniacs at Hargreaves Landsdown look after themselves and the fat cats before little ole me and my £5k

The BBC story suggest you get nowt if you applied for 10K or more and all if you applied for £750. This suggests that the lower your application value, the more of a percentage you'll get from your application

seems like i'll get The £750 but it will be split between my sipp and isa which means two selling fees if & when i decide to sell. Personally i thought they should of given the man on the street a much bigger percentage and then let the institutions buy what they want when the market opens

BBC business editor Robert Peston said: "The allocation of shares turns out to be very simple. If you've applied for up to £10,000 of shares, you will get £750 worth of shares. It is no more complicated than that."

I agree with gresty, why not let Joe Public make the quick profit on the majority of the shares, after all they currently own the business, and then let the financial institutions use their supposedly 'expertise' to assess whether they want to buy into it or not when the shares open for trading. It seems as though the institution have won all round by A) getting most of the shares and then B) making Joe public pay the minimum Trading fee, whatever that may be, when tens of thousands of people sell their allocation. The whole thing stinks, this could have been a god send for the politicians by selling it off cheaply to the public, even the Postal Workers are secretly happy with their lot despite the unions saying the contrary, instead they have ended up Pi55ing EVERYONE off... except the fat cat city institutions....Well done David, just another example of your 'looking after the boys' policies....
