Why don't they just print the lot and deliver it to Treasury in a dumb truck and dispense with this charade?

Why?

Because the lemmings are too stupid to know what this actually really means, that's why !!!

Didn't last for long.

FAFH, surely you understand the incredulity that Menelaus experiences?

Critics immediately accused George Osborne of fiddling the books, but the Treasury insisted that the move will draw Britain into line with the US and Japan, which also have big QE programmes.

If it was April 1st the above quote would be quite funny.

Let me guess, let's keep printing money out of thin air to keep spending on the nanny state but.....we'll muddle through.

Like I said, the lemmings don't have a clue as to what that means. Cry

In all seriousness, it's the general indifference of joe public to what is happening which surprises me more than what the politicians are up to. The youf of today are more interested in who gets kicked off x-factor than the fact they will be living in poverty in another decade!

From what I have read and heard, the " youth vote" was a pretty important factor in the recent US elections at least.
The youth in fact seem pretty much engaged in political/economic matters .
Or do you disagree ?
Btw I'm relieved that you didn't advocate that we should all be storming the Fed or the BoE, or starting some sort of civil insurrection.
Maybe you would be happier if someone like Menelaus was in charge of things ?
Please reaasure us you're not thinking along those sort of lines.

Seeing as you are back from your latest strop may I suggest that for the benefit of the forum in general we draw a line under our nonsense, allow bygones to be bygones and stick to a more cordial way of exchanging our respective views?
Report Menelaus November 10, 2012 11:50 PM GMT
Magnanimous offer but isn't it like offering peace after the battle is lost? I wonder what Wellington would say to Napoleon if an offer like that was made after the last shot at Waterloo was fired. Venture a guess?

LaughLaughLaugh

The only reason I posted again was to comment on that incredulous fanboy post of "I sold half of my apple shares". Like anyone gives a toss.

I really don't want to keep doing this. I will comment on threads that I think have substance and are about something that interests me. I will start my own threads when I need to draw attention to something I view as important. All in all, expect to see me a lot less often on here. Whether you want to be cordial or not, that's up to you.
Report Eeternaloptimist November 11, 2012 2:24 AM GMT
When you are as used to victory as I am then you find magnanimity more becoming than gloating. Feel free to try to swim back from Saint Helena if it pleases you but the result will be the same as the one following your trip from Elba.

You poor sap. I keep telling you but you don't listen. I'm sat having a post game cup of tea whilst you are still working out your first move. You could have a room full of weapons at your disposal and I just know which one you will go for. Every time. Actually, everyone knows two things. As Fine As alludes to you are one windy fecker but more importantly you have ceded any right to the moral high ground. At the same time you were puffing your chest out it was hitting the sides of the box into which I had coerced you.

Ain't life a motherfrucker?

Do you really think you are up to this? Really? Given your recent outburst and theatrical exit followed by wimpering return I'm beginning to worry about you. Wink

What you offered wasn't a cease fire, it was surrender.

It was refused and now you are reeling. Reel away. Wink

Your ego is far too big for this forum and to be behind a keyboard my friend.

There is an interesting development in the ETF market regarding Stock lending at the moment which I think is a step in the right.  I am sure you are aware of this though.

I made a prediction/opinion based on my own views.  It has to this day not come true.  I will live/adapt even.  the question is, will you?
Report FINE AS FROG HAIR November 12, 2012 3:20 PM GMT
Menelaus' reasoning seems to run along the following lines.
He has decided that it is appropriate and acceptable for him to express his views on here on all matters economic in an extremely rude, agressive and condescending manner.
All others have decided that it is not appropriate or acceptable to express views in such manner, and therefore do not even attempt to engage in reasonable debate with him, as any such attempt would be to acknowledge that his behaviour is appropriate and acceptable.
Therefore Menelaus concludes that by virtue of this lack of any real debate on this forum, that his views are unconditionally correct.
This conclusion is reached despite the clear evidence that his views are challenged on a daily basis in the wider world outside this forum, by experts of all degrees of qualification.
Go figure.
Report FINE AS FROG HAIR November 12, 2012 4:01 PM GMT
And the real tragedy is that in the process this forum has been gradually destroyed.
It was once thriving and entertaining community with all sorts of posters involved.
Now it has been reduced essentially to the domain of one extremely pompous man and his extremist economic opinions.
More's the pity.
One's commitment to the ethos of free speech is sorely tested by this miserable development.

My wife had an uncle living in Wessex during the cold war years. He was convinced that the Russians would nuke us out of the map so he built himself a trench in his backyard so the he could take shelter once the nukes started dropping on our heads. Poor man died a few years ago still waiting.

Is there a name for someone who feels the need to keep publicly posting his personal opinions and requiring confirmation from all, who he deems to be his intellectual inferiors, that he is either correct ( or even incorrect ) ?
Apart from the attention seeking involved, is it indicative of some other character flaw ?
Just megalomania, pure and simple ?
Also, if he isn't just copying this stuff from other sources, how does he find the time to post at such length and in such detail ( take the recent Apple post as an example).
He's apparently a senior m & a executive. Is Apple in his remit for example ?

Fine As

Interesting questions. From my point of view there is a funny way of answering and a serious way:

Only half jokingly I've previously posted he may have been one of triplets and maybe three mouths into two nipples didn't go and Melly missed out. That kind of thing would certainly help explain his neediness bordering on an obsessional desire for validation and victory at any cost (his frequent references to me being disabled being a prime example when I have explained that my wife is indeed disabled). He thrives on conflict because it makes him feel relevant. One may term this Bitty Deficiency. Laugh Whatever it is he is deeply craving something which he didn't get in childhood and he is clearly the kind of man trying to fill a hole which cannot be filled because he doesn't realise that he is raging about the fact that he was born at all or to someone who perhaps benignly neglected him. He is a Walter Mitty type character who has built this whole persona of being a master of the universe making the deals and rubbing shoulders with the top movers and shakers. This ties in with your comment. Would such a man really find any time to post to a handful of people on this forum let alone write verbose essays? Such a person needs validation in order to make the illusion real even for him even if this comes in the form of conflict. As for whether there is a name for such an individual I believe that there might be. They are called a Melly. Give them a wide birth. Laugh

On a serious note I don't think you are too wide of the mark. Megalomania, narcissistic personality disorder, call it what you will but the symptoms are most striking and they cry out because somewhere in their is a little boy unloved desperate for someone to put their arms around them and make them feel secure through unconditional love. There is a high incidence of this kind of person suffering often acute mental illness including bipolar disorder and schizophrenia.

That's my take from my interractions with him. I could be totally wrong.
Report Eeternaloptimist November 13, 2012 2:14 AM GMT
