Today, in aust we introduced a burdomsome carbon tax. That, coupled with other issues, which I won't numerate due to the fact that melly will tear every word apart. Suffice to say I'm shorting the AUD. Currently 107.14.

check that chart for minute by minute aftertiming melly.

Get short the AUD this week and make $$$$$$.

Benny, your posts are conclusive proof that you are a fool taking a random walk through a mine field. You can get lucky for a while but sooner or later....

You thought the AUD would move on "today's news" (Today, in aust we introduced a burdomsome carbon tax), when in fact those news were known and priced in the market weeks ago. Very idiotic thing to post on here, worse if that was the basis of your trade.

The trade went your way because of OTHER reasons (I could explain but I doubt you could understand). Nothing beats profiting without even knowing why, so enjoy it. But unfortunately your  random walk continues......so soon enough.........BBBBOOOOOOOOOOMMMMM.

But wait, sorry, I forgot, you already blew up when you are trading gold to go under $1,000 and it's hitting new highs every day LaughLaughLaugh

Funny how Ben gets so many massive trades right if it is pure luck isn't it? The amount he must be winning on these big trades more than outweighs the small losses taken on losing trades (which are inevitable however good you are). Keep up the good work ben.

We all must give credit where it is due. And for Benny this is one of those times most clearly. And he apparently has had quite a few others.
The point M is probably more trying to make, albeit in his usual unfortunate confrontational style, is in currency trading when you get it wrong you can and will be totally crucified. No stops in the world will protect you. And unless you are a seriously professional operator, with a lot of back up financial and intellectual support, it is not if you will get it wrong it is just when.
By:

When: 12 Jul 11 20:45
Aaaah noooo, the point M was trying to make is that although the trade may have gone right, THE RATIONALE POSTED WAS ALL WRONG. Unless you believe the FX-market is a roulette wheel where luck outweighs reason, then I would say Benny and those who follow the drivel he posts on here sooner or later will discover they are in a world of hurt.

And yes, GOLD @ $1,571......should be heading to $1,000 real soon.

Could you tell us exactly technically why, in this particular case, the AUD did move down as it it did,as correctly forecasted by benny, if indeed his rationale was already totally priced in?.
I would be interested to know that.
By:

When: 12 Jul 11 22:02
Benny's "forecast" was akin to someone forecasting that Man U will win next season's premiership opener at West Brom because Wayne Rooney will wear a No10 on his shirt. There's a high degree of correlation with one event (Rooney wearing No10) but NO CAUSATION in the real event, that is the outcome of the match.

The markets have known about the carbon tax for weeks, they didn't just wake up one morning and read it in the Brisbane Courier Mail like Benny did. The NEGLIGIBLE affect of that event on the AUD was already known and already priced in (the carry trade and China growth have been the two sole drivers behind the AUD). THAT'S HOW MARKETS WORK.

What the markets didn't know and begun to price in that morning was a surprise......CHINA CPI. Anyone who thinks otherwise, regardless if they were on the right side of the trade, are either ignorant or deluding themselves.

At any rate, that's all I'm prepared to say. I don't want to discuss this clown's "let's throw a dart on the board and see what happens trades", nor do I want to continue to educate the lemmings on here.

Ok that's interesting enough though.
I'm no currency trader.
Far too volatile and unpredictable.
Probably benny is in fact a very good darts player, a skill perhaps not at all irrelevant to or wasted on the currency markets ?.
But one day he's going to drop a big heavy dart right on his foot or worse even perhaps onto his little d!ckie ?.
Ouch!

i know it s a big IF, but...what if, the other issues ( as in: "That, coupled with other issues, which I won't numerate due to the fact that melly will tear every word apart.") were the chinese cpi or the euro crisis and ben didnt want to talk about it in order to save himself from your abuse? i can imagine the conversation:
"benny benny, how can you talk about inflation if you have no idea how the cpi is calculated..."
"euro crises? do you have a clue about how the sovx trades and what s the debt to gdp of italy if you had to add the regionals liabilities?"
"sell aud and make money??? lol, do you know how money gets created yet?"

lets render unto caesar when it s due and not try to be controversial and confrontational every single thread.

Btw M, I am still hoping you might post up what you see as the best ways to protect against any potential hyperinflation scenarios.
Just keep it simple though, if you are inclined to answer at all.
I promise you will not be held to account or 2nd guessed on anything you post, not by me anyway.

I see where you're coming from but do you really, honestly feel that Benny falls in that intellectual camp ?.
If he did, as you obviously do, then he would be perfectly capable of giving M as good as he gets ( like you do), rsther than posting in the sadly infantile manner he does.
M does himself no favours, but neither does Benny.

Sorry on rereading your post, I do see that you started off by saying that it was a big IF.
So maybe you do have your doubts about Benny like many of us do.
But he's harmless enough to anybody reasonably financially aware.
He could be a bit of a danger to those who are not, particularly those being criminally mislead by all the hyped up advertising to do FX trading.

Nice one MrBen.

However the down move was down to fear about the Euro debt crisis not the carbon tax.

I personally think the carbon tax could go either way with respect to AUD. It will either see investment from abroad dry up and the AUD weaken, or prices of groceries, fuel, electricity will increase, inflation will increase, interest rates will increase and the AUD will strengthen as a result. I'm sure messrs Swan, Combet and Gillards incompetence is likely to have a downward effect on the AUD at some point.

Someone asked about technicals higher up the fred. Yesterday A/U bounced beautifully off the weekly 20ema. This level has provided support to A/U for nearly a year.

Whatever the reasons for the move down, a profit is a profit. Nice!

It would be shocking if JW didn't weigh in on this given he saw it as opportunity to take a few shots at me.

Benny took a random walk through a mine field and lived to tell about it. Unfortunately due to his ignorance, taking a random walk through a mine field is what he usually does every time he trades. One thing is for certain.......random walks through a mine field don't end well.

@ JW

If you ever feel about getting a spanking again in a debate, let me know. Otherwise I'm afraid you'll have to call me names and take shots at me in hit and run posts on all the other threads I comment on. You look pretty pathetic that way to be honest, not that it ever bothered you in the past. Notice how although you are one of the few people who knew that the move was the result of China CPI and the EZ mayhem, not the carbon tax, yet you chose not to comment on it. You preferred instead to put some insults in my mouth and take a shot at me. I said so before, directly to you, not in drive posts on other threads, our debate revealed a lot to me as to who you are as a person. Calling you pathetic is paying you a compliment.

@ Pastie

Correct. The move had nothing to do with the carbon tax. It is massively naive to think the market would react THAT morning after knowing about it for months. A profit is profit indeed but one should ALWAYS know if the profit was pure luck, being in the right trade at the right time, or due to genuine knowledge. Knowledge you can rely on for repeated success, luck you can not.

One more thing. Magically this line "I'm shorting the AUD" in the first post evolved into this "It ended up to be my biggest trade of the year so far" in the last post. If was left up to the reader to interpret, after they finished laughing that the AUD would move that morning because of the carbon tax, that Benny's confidence in the WRONG REASON was so huge, a massive position was taken......so far this year of course.

Benny has turned this forum into the "comedy" hour. Good for a laugh but a waste of time otherwise.

I'm afraid to say that your posts are just getting uglier and uglier in tone.
Why all the bitterness ?
Surely not because a few on here either take cheap shots at you or have the temerity to debate a few points with you.
You don't strike me as the sensitive sort.
Why all the aggro then ?
Totally and utterly self-defeating.

FAFH, uglier in tone indeed, and for good reason. Benny is noise. Plain and simple, I can never take anyone posting on here seriously enough who did not know how money gets created (plus a whole bunch of other stuff but who cares at this point).

JW is a different case though. He knows better, yet he mostly shows up when he sees an opportunity to take shots at me. If you think I'm wrong, scroll back through the pages of this forum and point me to the number of threads JW started to discuss, debate or inform of something of interest over the last few months, at a time when virtually every day now we have something major happening worth discussing in these unprecedented times. Go back further, found any yet? I'll save you the time, stop looking, there are none. The overwhelming majority of time he graces us with his wisdom is when he sees an opportunity to take shots at my posts. Case in point, his post on this thread. Did he opine on the crux of the matter whether the AUD went down because of the carbon tax or because of other reasons. The answer is no. He "contribution" was squarely aimed at taking a shot at me, nothing more. I used to respect him as a knowledgeable poster up to the point of when I clued in that he simply parroting PTB mainstream propaganda. I can tune in to every mainstream financial government/CB captured media to hear that perspective, I don't need to log-on here to find out. If and when you see an original thought posted by him in the future, please let me know.

I'm afraid that to a very large extent you've made your own bed and now you have to lie in it.
In my way of seeing things JW started out ( at least) being prepared to have very civilised, content rich debates with you.
He was neither gratuitously dismissive nor overly complimentary of your knowledge and skills.
He(somewhat over sarcastically perhaps) questioned your trading credentials to be sure, but never your deep knowledge of economic theory.
Then, for some unknown reason (s), you started upping the invective if and when he just didn't roll over bow down to all your conclusions, most particularly your over-riding hypothesis that Fed manipulation is driving any and all market movements and price discovery.
He disagrees with you apparently quite fundamentally on this and he has given his basic reasons why he does.
You seem to be either incapable or unprepared to accept this alternative view on the whole scenario in any form or manner, and heve been getting increasingly extremely personally abusive towards him, and thus we now have JW just responding in kind and giving as good as he gets.
All very unfortunate, immature, silly and totally pointless by both of you I'm sorry to say.
The very good debating has deteriorated into a sort of continuous personal diatribe between the two of you, with rational debate on the market and the other relevant matters being apparently given a death sentence, though hopefully just suspended and not yet actually executed.
You're both being far too precious, which is extremely surprising to me, given the pretty tough, callous, aggressive world you're both working in.
All the above is meant to be constructive criticism btw, and is aimed at hopefully getting the train back on the tracks for the benefit of all.
Let's see how really " big and smart " you can both be in all this and move forward intelligently.
By:
FINE AS FROG HAIR

Easy I suppose for me to say all this as I am unapparently unwilling to contribute my good share to any of the debates.
Unfortunately it is more a case of not being qualified to do so.
I do acknowledge the obvious superior knowledge and experience of both of you on these types of matters and I just want to listen and learn and pick your brains.

Poor mellyCry Seething.

The only thing I posted was "carbon tax" so you seize on that.Had i posted  the size of my computer screen you would have seized on

that. Your just interested in abusing other posters. Nothing else.

Poor MellyCry IF IF IF  the reasons for the AUD falling are the reasons YOu stated. Then WHY has the AUD gone straight back up? 107.75 this morning.

If you are right why did it not STAY down?LaughLaughLaugh

Why did it not stay down?????????????

You have absolutly zero idea of what moves markets melly, zero.

But from your posts  in response to my success it is crystal clear your not here to debate markets, your here to abuse posters,

regardless of content, you only purpose is to feed your "small mans syndrome".

Please send me you mailing address and I'll send you a postcard from Bali.[:p]

Also when the little Aussie battler dropped the other day and reversed back up pretty quickly I assume that Mr Ben picked the reversal point correctly and rode it back up successfully.
If not, then why not ?.
I mean if you can pick it one way, why not the other way ?.
After all trading currencies is all so obvious and easy isn't it ( for mr Ben at least if not for us mere mortals)?.
I'm really jealous truth be told.
