Radio 4 buisness News says that March figures will clearly show that spending is shrinking and sales are falling.People are being more cautious and they are now aware of the coming austerity. I presume this excludes those who are stopping spending becasue they have lost their jobs and have nothing to spend.

When this fall in confidence hits the housing market; falls in employent and spending create a downward spiral as less spending leads to more unemployment and the long awaited collapse happens.

The Tories must know this and therfore must want it. I bet there are madarins who are privately saying "You can't make an omlette withour cracking a few eggs". They will blame the misery on labour and when the time is politically right they will print money. At that point the economy will be easier to grow as it will start from a lower level.

Not a bad idea so farLaugh

Its just that i never understood how we escaped the consequeces of the borrowing bubble. I know printing money bought time especially as everyone did it and pretended it had no cosequences.

As I result I regualarly predict "payback time". I expect to be right eventually if we actually enter another boom based on borrowing without a massive downturn first I will chage my economic religion.

I will join the cake and eat it, eternal borrowing with no payback wishfullfillment fantasy brigade.

Why would you short the FTSE if you believe its going to take (infinity) QE?

Whether or not we go back into recession is immaterial.

Take away the unsustaniable government spending, the credit fuelled expansion of the last decade and start taking inflation into account you'll discover the real economy has been in recession for years.

Best post I've seen on here in a long time. The only thing I would change to this post is replace the word "recession" with "depression" but other than that PERFECT.
