Caught me on the hop this one.  I'm quite underweight bonds having put a lot in equities, commodities/gold and bits and bobs.  I am shedding equities (including miners) for some Treasuries.  I don't think it's too late at all....  eeeek.

Underweight bonds?  You don't want any bonds, they are junk.
Report Valero May 25, 2010 4:30 PM BST
thread makes no sense at all... as the previous poster has stated.. why do you want gilts in your portfolio?

you are aware this country is bustino... right?

Hmm, which way did the price of bonds go today?

30 year bull market in Government paper caught you on the hop?

owls:  I'm looking for better rates of return than a 30yr long position would give.
Live:  Everything is potentially junk apart from Gold and I have a lot of that now, but some Treasuries and Gilts should be in my portfolio in a potentially deflationary environment.
Valero: See Irving's comment (and the market).

oh right, i got it.

so you are basing the judgement of a "portfolio" on one days price action.

cool.

good luck.

No, I'm basing it on the sharp disinflation observed in M3, the forthcoming end to the state guarantee periods and loans to weak banks, the increase in OIS and 3m LIBOR and the fact that I don't have any 'risk-free' assets in my portfolio at the moment.  Govvies have been going up for nearly a month by the way.

glad to see i got you googling in the end.

keep it up [;)]

With respect guys. Goring knows what he is doing. He is after a balanced portfolio. If you dont understand that then you should really keep out of it!

He has made his position crystal clear. He thinks Gold is the way forward, and has also made it clear that this makes up a large chunk of his portfolio.

For the record. I believe large companies are trimming the fat , amd are likely to make larger profits even at difficult times. I think that once this debt crisis is pushed to the back of everyones mind, and more good news comes from the States, markets will move back up
Report Valero May 26, 2010 1:08 PM BST
What will form the basis to this "good news from the States"?
Report chisel May 26, 2010 1:54 PM BST
Is that a trick question?
Report Valero May 26, 2010 3:55 PM BST
certainly not, was just wondering what current economic factors make you think what you do... its good to get a look into others ways of thinking.

As if by magic the markets surge..On the basis of good news from the states, and maybe a little bit from China!!
