They do pay Council Tax on voids after a maximum of 6 months.
Report unitedbiscuits March 19, 2010 8:08 PM GMT
Why the six month amnesty and afterwards do landlords get a discount if their place is empty, please?

it is the govts interest for landlords to provide housing as they dont want to have to do it.... all roads lead to the property market.wake up

The Police represents around 11% of Council Tax expenditure for most Local Authorities.

I'd make BuyToLet gains subject to income tax. That'd sort the housing market out.

My last landlord paid my CT in 2000...but I was living in shared accom.

If you think its in anyones interest (bar the buy to let parasites) to have millions of families forced into paying rent to private landlords then you are completely clueless. That way all roads lead to disaster.

whingy wannabe property owners do my head in. Its a market, earn more, save less then you will be able to buy, otherwise your a teanant. And lets face it being a tenant isnt that bad, freedom is worth more than a few bunch of rotten bricks.
Report HarryCrumb March 20, 2010 2:50 PM GMT
Its plain stupid to suggest that at current levels anyone who works hard can buy a house.

Dont be daft!!

Jealousy gets you nowhere United Buiscuits.

Landlords renting properties to students pay no Council Tax and nor do the students.... the returns are fantastic! I bet this makes you insanely jealous!

Landlords renting to anyone pay no Council Tax.

How much have you invested in this fantastic investment oppertunity?
Report chisel March 24, 2010 2:50 PM GMT
Simple mind. Point is no one is paying council tax my friend. The poster appears to be jealous of anyone that has put their money where their mouth is and bought property to let out!!

This is England 4crying out loud. We all have the opportunity to work for a better future.. Peopel like Grey Shark need a friendly landlord!, otherwise they would have no where to live... Jealously is a terrible thing. It eats you up from the inside...

[i][b]Buy to let sector problems push more professional landlords into bankruptcy
15 March 2010

A sharp rise in buy to let investment casualties has seen increasing numbers of people looking for serious debt advice, warns debt solution comparison site IVA.com.

The company, which has just published its latest (March 2010) data, reported a 53 per cent leap in distressed buy to let investors struggling to pay their creditors. Typical debts ranged from £163,000 to £201,000 in all reported cases those saddled with the property debt were middle class professionals owing substantial mortgage arrears.

There is a differnece between sensible BTL landlords and those that overexposed themselves. When was that extract written??

Most BTL mortgages will eventually come to teh end of a Fixed rate period and Mortgage Express, BM Solutions and Mortgage WOrks all have VERY attractive variable rates linked to base rate. There will be more landlords rubbing their hands in glee than handing teh keys back!!

chisel - "this is England ffs." More's the pity. Nobody makes anything anymore. Nobody has any ideas. There's only one model - get finance from the Bank of Mum&Dad, get tenants, sit on your hands until you're 20kg overweight and look like a complacent pig while those less fortunate make you richer.

Come on, dont worry about what others do , just concern yourself with what you do. Take responsibility and your life will be good!
Report unitedbiscuits March 25, 2010 12:53 PM GMT
Doing fine thank you chisel. I'm lucky and I'll never be short of money. What has that to do with the excellent idea of making landlords pay coucil tax?
Report chisel March 25, 2010 3:19 PM GMT
Why is it a good idea??
Report unitedbiscuits March 25, 2010 3:26 PM GMT
It would decelerate the downward spiral of this country to a position where one half of the country works to further enrich the other half
who are sitting on their hands imo..
Report Jack Hacksaw March 26, 2010 1:16 PM GMT
Why should people who rent not pay council tax, while owner occupiers pay?

Stupid idea, imo.
