Bad advice and/or bad opinions.
Sorry, not bad opinions necessarily, just wrong ones.
Also throw in a bit of bad luck and that about sums it all up.
Not much help eh ?

Look I was obviously being a tad facetious above.
The true bottom line is that money makes money.
The big, successful investors all pretty much have the advantage of having, let us say generously, the inside track on new info. hitting the market and also have priority, inside positions in the new deal qeues.
Without these advantages, most investors get in far too late on the really good investment opportunities.
It is in no way an even playing field, I'm afraid to say.
Most brokers treat the low net worth clients disgracefully and effectively just rip them off for personal gain.
It is an industry with very low, if any, morals.

They get their info too late and too imprecisely.
It's all about good info being received early.
The line between insider trading and trading with seriously good inside info is extremely fine, believe me.

There are any number of reason why people lose, but I believe it basically comes down to personality.Just as it takes a certain type of person to be a successful real estate agent/lawyer/ politician, the common element here is to be comfortable with being a liar. A tradesman may need physical strength, a model need to be pretty, an accountant needs to be good with figures etc.
Its simply not possible to turn yourself into something your not, not matter how much the "guru's " tell you that you can.Sellers of trading courses are always saying"anyone can do it" Not true.
I have lost count of the number of people I have met who know all there is to know about trading, and I do mean every theory under the sun, but just can't make a buck. There are those who only believe that the "insiders" have all the info so its not possible to win- these guys never make a move.
Theres no formula
Theres no winning system
Theres just the circumstances and knowing what to do
Nothing, nothing works everytime.

Because they don't take a long term view
they invest in companies that they don't understand their business
they trade too often (charges mop up gains)

heres my last couple of share trades

bhp bought 2000 sold 1 day later profit 1960- this week

anz bank bought 3000 sold 23 days later profit 1860

rio tinto bought 1268 , wrote a covered call profit 2960, one month duration.

newcrest gold bought 600 currently sitting on a loss of about 1500 held 2 months
newcrest bought 600 sold 3 weeks later at profit of 70

Its a bit unlucky to buy a company that goes out the back door.Just trade small in relation to capital and it won't affect you .Also if you trade small and it goes down you can hold on, using capital to make other trades.
Are the market going up?I dunno, but theres opportunities everyweek.

The reason most people lose on investments is because they think they're boarding a skyrocket when they are actually on the London Eye!
