The opening contest at Exeter looks an eminently winnable one, with the John Ferguson-trained Printmaker taken to make a winning debut over hurdles. The four-year-old was fairly useful at up to a mile and a quarter on the Flat in Ireland and he should take a fair amount of stopping here if translating anything like that ability to his new profession, particularly with his yard in good form (fired in a brace of winners yesterday). Ferguson has done well with horses of a similar profile previously and, with question marks over plenty of his rivals, Printmaker looks more than capable of going close. Hello Stranger has done nothing wrong in his short career to date, comprising just the two runs, and he is taken to confirm himself as being well treated on what will represent...

Albaqaa won pair of big-field handicaps last summer, and shaped quite well when fifth to Trade Commissioner at Sandown last month. Better than bare result last time, but this trip is on the sharp side. Lutine Bell can be hampered by slow starts, but back to best when second of 18 at Doncaster (7f) last time. Clear of third there, and should remain competitive despite a 5 lb hike in the weights. Dubai Hills put up best turf effort in 2011 when third in the Lincoln, and took a 7f soft-ground Redcar handicap in June. Well beaten in 3 subsequent outings, however, and often finds little for pressure. Harrison George won 4 times in 2010, but endured a barren campaign last year, and well beaten in a first-time tongue tie on debut for new yard at Newmarket recently....

Timeform's UK SmartPlays kick off the week at today's afternoon meetings, staged at Ripon and Kempton... Today's race at Ripon offers Gala Casino Star (15:15) the chance to complete a four-timer, running under a penalty following his nine-length win at Nottingham on Thursday. The gelding, who joined Geoffrey Harker's this season, is thriving since the reapplication of a visor, and under regular jockey Jordan Nason should be able to follow up today. His win last week was the best performance of his career and though Demoliton, who won this handicap in 2010 and placed second last year, is likely to have been set up with this race in mind, Gala Casino Star looks hard to beat on the good to soft going on which he's proven. Ace of Valhalla looks the pick of the pack...

Lingfield holds a mixed turf/all-weather card this afternoon and the concluding maiden on the polytrack gives the consistent Jack Of Diamonds (17:30) a good chance to get off the mark at the seventh time of asking. Roger Teal's charge has raced four times with credit on this surface, showing better form than the rivals he faces today in all of them, and seems sure to benefit from the drop back to six furlongs here (didn't seem to get home over a mile on turf last time), with Richard Hughes an interesting jockey booking. In the opener at Kempton this evening, Paphos (18:20) aims to repeat his success of 12 months ago in this corresponding race. Although winless since, there are sound reasons for believing a big run is expected from the Stuart Williams trained gelding, with...

Moose Moran was useful on Flat earlier in career but largely disappointing over hurdles for N. Henderson/D. Pipe, leaving the latter following a poor effort in February. Hard to assess on return/debut for new yard. Rumh was a decisive all-the-way winner of listed event on quick ground at Newbury (1¼m) a year ago. Often faced stiff tasks when failing to match that since, but this easier if proving stamina for trip. Spensley has a good record on AW, winning 4 times here in 2010/2011. Found life too tough upped in class final 2 starts last year, and 4 lb higher on return now, but respected all the same. Clearwater Bay looked a potentially smart stayer for A. O'Brien at 3 yrs but offered little on return from 21-month absence at Royal Ascot last month for...

18:20 - An apprentices' handicap is never an easy way to start the placepot and this doesn't offer any exception in what could develop into a trappy affair. Do More Business at least arrives in good form and he looks a solid selection in a race where he is Timeform top-rated, whilst Scarborough Lily is arguably the most likely alternative winner. The pair should be good enough to see us through given their consistency. 18:50 - Steady Gaze is Timeform top-rated and has three from three course-and-distance successes to his name making him a banker selection in the second race. The 11 runners mean that the first three places pay and it would be a surprise if Steady Gaze wasn't to feature in the finish at a course he clearly acts well around. 19:20 - The maiden doesn't...

Main Beach took another step in the right direction when registering third career win over 6f here in November. Not disgraced either start since, but stamina to prove on return from 5 months off. Shavansky is a slow starter who posted couple of good efforts after taking 1m Chepstow handicap last summer. On a handy mark, but doesn't appear to have returned in much form. Uppercut showed good battling qualities when narrowly getting the job done in a 1m Leicester handicap in October, but lack of a recent run and stall 14 probably no help on polytrack debut. Top Diktat was a gradual improvement at 3 yrs, winning for second time when rounding off campaign at Newbury (1m) in October. In top hands and could easily have more to offer in 2012. Sinfonico...

Electrolyser generally struggled in pattern company last year despite running respectably, and similar story in Dubai this winter. Back to winning ways in Nottingham listed race latest, but bit more needed. Red Cadeaux took a step forward when hammering rivals in Curragh Group 3 (1¾m) in June, and similar level of form when placed in Melbourne Cup (beaten in photo)/Hong Kong Vase. Leading player back in Group 3. Barbican proved a revelation last year having been unraced for Aidan O'Brien, winning 6 times including a listed race here on final start. Not as good at this trip at Meydan latest, but needs considering. Colour Vision's third win of 2011 in 2¼m Pontefract minor event in October. Better than ever when third in Cesarewitch and then placed in...

Sacrosanctus found plenty when gaining fourth win of 2011 over 6f at Newmarket in August. Didn't show much over 6f here on reappearance a month ago, and may need a few more runs to hit full stride. Sea Solider has raced solely on turf, and off the mark at the fourth attempt in maidens over this trip at Warwick in June. Unable to dominate big field at Doncaster final 3-y-o start and drawn wide on return. Dubarshi ended 2-y-o campaign on the up with a brace of 7f AW wins. Missed all of 2011, but returned better than ever with a strong-travelling second to Ducal over C&D. Of interest from stall 1. Ducal was steadily progressive for Sir Mark Prescott and has continued the good work for this stable, landing back-to-back C&D contests last month. Latest 3 lb...

We get underway in Kempton's 14:50, where Top Benefit is taken to defy a 10 lb rise for an easy success at Market Rasen last month. The 10-year-old has gradually been getting his act together since joining current trainer Kim Bailey, improving in each of his three starts to get off the mark on the latest occasion, beating Stick Together by nine lengths with his jumping seemingly improved. Moscow Chancer is second-best to the selection on Timeform weight-adjusted ratings, but looks something of an irresolute character, whilst Emperor Charlie has been hit with a 12 lb rise for his last success. Top Benefit's jumping clearly needs to hold together once more, but he has an excellent chance of gaining a second career victory. There are plenty to consider in Southwell's 16:10, but this...
