Captain Chris made giant strides since his debut in February 2010, fulfilling expectations when outstaying his rivals in the Arkle. Added to that at Punchestown, and no reason why he won't go on progressing.
Ghizao was twice conqueror of Arkle-hero Captain Chris last season, but a bad mistake on each of his last 2 starts in the spring cost him. Usually a sound jumper, and every chance there's more to come.
Medermit progressed well over fences after an early blip, beating Captain Chris in Grade 1 at Sandown. Unable to land a blow behind same rival in the Arkle, and this trip probably sharp enough on return.
Oiseau de Nuit is a hold-up 2m chaser who ended last season in the form of his life, following win in Grand Annual with 2 solid efforts. Doesn't possess the scope of some, but this test will be in his favour.
Cornas is a smart chaser on his day, and back to best on final 2010/11 run when third in Grade 2 at Sandown (just ahead of Oiseau de Nuit). Runner-up in France recently, but only sixth in this last year.
Zaarito had a chequered start to chasing career in 2009/10, but a smart performer when getting it right. Cracking effort sole start last season when runner-up in Grade 2, but absent since and jumping is a worry.
Thunder Child showed marked progress when landing hat-trick of low-grade handicaps at Taunton in the spring, but simply making up the numbers here from so far out the weights.
Timeform 1-2-3:
1. Captain Chris
2. Ghizao
3. Oiseau de Nuit
Timeform View: All bar Thunder Child can be given a chance in what is a strong renewal. Captain Chris will be seen to even better effect over further, but he's potentially a high-class chaser and can give weight all round. Ghizao and Oiseau de Nuit look the pick of the opposition.
