Our first selection takes us to Nottingham, where the well-treated Igoyougo (13:30) can kick-start the afternoon by taking the five- furlong handicap. His last two wins have both come off marks higher than today's and, although he has been largely disappointing this season, his second at Redcar last time was a good effort and one which suggested that he ought to be scoring sooner rather than later. Trainer Noel Wilson has saddled just the one runner at the track this year, which resulted in a win, and Igoyougo looks to have every chance of adding to that tally.
The 15:25 at Haydock is where we find our second selection, namely Perpetually, who looks to have been found a good opportunity to add to his hurdling debut win at Huntingdon. He was a fair performer on the flat for Mark Johnston and instantly translated his ability to the jumping game for current trainer John Ferguson, looking as though he had more to offer in beating Camerooney by half a length. This is not the strongest of contests, especially with main rival Pippa Green shaping as though this really is the minimum trip for him now, which could well allow Perpetually to gain a relatively simple second win over hurdles.
Finally, we visit the northern most meeting today, where Paul Hanagan looks to have a good chance of boosting his jockey's championship title defence aboard Lexington Bay in Musselburgh's 15:50. The Richard Fahey-trained three year-old is a stayer on the up and is taken to complete the hat-trick on his first attempt at two miles. The step up in trip has the potential to unlock even further improvement, his most recent success at Haydock over a mile and three-quarters suggesting as much, and the latest 4 lb rise does not look as though it will be stopping him today.
