Russian War enjoyed a fine time of it over hurdles last term, winning 6 times, including at this meeting. Not looked a natural over fences of late, but dangerous to dismiss returned to the smaller obstacles.

Buena Vista made all to land Pertemps Final for second successive year in March. Needed run when well held in this contest last year, and similar scenario expected without usual headgear.

Qulinton was much improved to win first 2 starts of season over fences, but lesser efforts in valuable events last twice, and hard to know what to expect on first hurdle run since 2009. Cheekpieces back on now.

Alderley Rover is not short of talent, but has looked one to treat with caution over fences. Back over hurdles after jumping poorly in valuable chase at Market Rasen last month, and not easy to warm to.

Our Island is a Point winner who looks a thorough stayer over hurdles, digging deep to score at Newbury in February. Found Spa Hurdle too hot here in March, but open to further progress after only 3 starts

Raslan is a front runner who is more than capable when in the mood, and was a good third in this contest last season. Not in same form this time round, however, and surprise if he proved good enough

Paint The Clouds was progressive over hurdles last year, winning C&D handicap in April. Won both starts in novice/maiden chases this year, and likely to go well on return to timber under these conditions.

Fade To Grey has been in cracking form in recent months, winning over this trip at Worcester in May and July. Faded late after travelling well when third at Ffos Las in August, and may have reached his limit now.

Pilgrims Lane started the season by winning chases at Ludlow and Fakenham, and put a moody effort behind him when a solid third to Ethiopia at Chepstow (3m) on Saturday. Lesser force over hurdles, though.

Snake Charmer landed a handicap hurdle for Milton Harris in February, and back to best under a forceful ride when scoring at Fontwell (27f) last month. Thorough stayer who is opposable from 6 lb out the weights.

Timeform 1-2-3:
1. Paint The Clouds
2. Our Island
3. Russian War

Timeform View: Having scored on lively ground over C&D in April, Paint The Clouds looks the best option. The lightly-raced Our Island is feared most, although top-weight Russian War is dangerous to ignore.
