Firstly I must comment further on yesterday's result: I put my Forensic Accountant's hat on and looked closely at the two selections that lost. Then I got out my Staff Disciplinary Pad and issued a "Written Warning" to myself! Once again I had somehow made two selections that I could in no way justify. How I have no idea! I have redoubled my efforts to check each selection very carefully. So hopefully there won't be such stupidity again. On reflection I should have seen the warning signs when I managed to end up with a list of 10 races selected. The 'normal' number would be roughly between 4 and 8 races of interest.

Back to today: If ever there was an example of "Less is More" then today's performance was it! Or put another way "It pays to pay attention". The result pulled back yesterdays dismal showing and then some. I spent an extra hour double-checking each selection - and it paid off handsomely. Helped, I might add, by some very advantageous odds (some would say Lady Luck looked favourably upon me!). This was, by my standards, an exceptional day. I am reminded of the quote "The more I practice, the luckier I get."

So, I now need to average £104 for each of the next 9 days to achieve my target of £5K for the month. We shall see.

Comment:

Today I met with the perfect storm. My first two bets lost and all the rest of my selections offered poor odds. So not much chance to claw back the loss. Frustrating to say the least. Anyway, at least the formula for predicting the number of back-to-back losing bets has been proved correct. With my current Strike Rate the formula predicts that the most I will ever suffer (back-to-back) is - yes you've guessed - two! That said, I will be analysing the two losing bets in detail to see if I made any mistakes in the selection process. I am pretty sure I didn't - but double-checking never hurts.

I am now facing facing an uphill task to reach the £5K mark by the month end. But don't worry, I won't be tempted to try anything new or clever to make it up. It is after all a self-imposed target. My system will continue unabated and we will see if my 'luck'* changes.

* I use the word 'luck' in jest! My system does not allow for 'luck' it works on probability. That said I'll happily accept any luck that comes my way!

At last the 2 'predicted' losing bets! I must admit though that one of them was borderline (in terms of meeting my criteria). So the lesson learned today is to always err on the side of caution. A little profit is much, much better than a little loss! and I would have made a little profit today if I had been more cautious.

The 'Good News' is that the loss is so small that I am unable to show it in red on the first graph (even if I blow it up to a ridiculous size). A small blessing.

Well! As expected (see my comments on Day 72) a couple of bets lost. BUT on closer inspection and analysis neither of them met my selection criteria! HOW STUPID OF ME. I have obviously been getting somewhat careless to say the least.

The only explanation I can give (and it's not an excuse) is that I simply did not follow my own rules. I was not aware of not following my own rules - which suggests a degree of sloppiness on my part. More care will be taken from now on as I intend to institute some form of double-check system. Losing money like this is just plain ridiculous. On my current form it will take about 3 or 4 days to recover it (if one can ever 'recover' a lost opportunity).
