The best slam of the year is here
By:
I see Oksana Selekhmeteva is now representing Spain. She's a no-hoper, bu it must be embarrassing for Russia to have more and more players switch nationalities.
By:
Probably gave her citizenship to help with the BJK Cup, Badosa always injured, so all they've really got is Bouzas Maneiro and Busca, who are also as bang average as Selekhmeteva, suppose it's better to have 3 bang average players rather than 2 in case 1 gets injured.
Most of the switchers are inconsequential, mug players who wouldn't be recognised walking down any Russian street. Potapova maybe the best but she's no Andreeva. It's when the likes of Mirra, Rublev, Medvedev switch, household names, which is highly unlikely they will now if they haven't already, that's when the Putin might sit up and take notice as they are easily the highest profile stars. |
By:
yeah, that's fair enough.
By:
Hard to tell, but Rybakina might have switched back if not for the war.

Another week where hopeless players earn €87,000 for a 1st round appearance thanks to being born in a Slam hosting country while someone more deserving ranked in the 100-130 range misses out. Between all the boycotts and complaints from the players/players council, I'm surprised this one is never brought up.
By:
That's been my pet hate for years, always said at Wimbledon especially, hopeless players freeloading with wildcards they haven't earned, reciprocal wildcards are even worse, it's like a cartel.
Saba and Boycotts, I don't buy her Marty act for a second. S he's only thinking of herself because she can afford to miss slams as a multi millionaire player, but vast majority on the circuit are living pay check to pay check, someone who genuinely deserves to be there ranked 100 or scraped through qualies ranked 150+, it's like a lottery win to make Round 1, as if they would want to boycott a slam. And she made that big speech, whilst sitting there wearing a flashy Rolex ![]() What she's saying is flawed anyway, increased % of the revenue/turnover is great, but it's the increased % share of the actual profits she actually needs to concentrate on, revenue can increase but so can costs, she's been badly advised and doesn't really know what she's talking about. It's also an empty threat, because everyone has personal sponsors, do you think they would want their players missing one of the 4 Showcase events of the year which draws the biggest global television audiences and media coverage. |

never underestimate the ability of average players to choke big leads. sierra on the way to chucking a set and double break lead to raducanu who looked like she wanted off the court asap before sierra decided to crumble
By:
sierra gets to 5-3 so can break for it and if that doesnt happen, serve for it. you can guess the rest. **** up both.
By:
3rd set only going one way if sierra doesnt win in two.
By:
lol. gets to serve for it again and **** it up again
By:
terrible from raducanu. sierra absolutely there for the taking having choked so much.
By:
Djoko 1.14 start odds, then 1.21 2-*1 up.
By:
1.30, 3-*2 up
Meanwhile Fritz is crashing out. |
By:
nice of Nishesh to hurry up so Sori could get on court after mugging that 3rd set breaker.
By:
I was going to say in my wafer thin preview thread, that G.P.M could be a banana skin for Djoko but thought, no, he's a one dimensional serve bot.
Road Blockx v Road Runner next Think he can cause an upset, very close match in Monte Carlo. Thankfully Bonzi KO'd quickly, don't need a repeat of last year KOing a big gun twice, Med x2, them promptly going out 1 and 2 rounds later. That gun loves the limelight. Love how they put Sorana's match on dead last, giving her the coronation send off she deserves ready for peak time. (Let's pretend her opponent isn't Efremova, a budding 17yo French WC hopeful who won the Aussie juniors this year, and that they think can causes a big shock and be a future star) |
By:
Incidentally, Efremova said girls don't want to practice with her because she's a wildcard ranked #625, that makes no sense to me, do they think up and coming players don't know how to play tennis or that they don't deserve to be there, maybe both.
By:
Then again, she's really Russian, so a bit like Konta in the UK, fans probably wont care that much.
Read her mum was tennis player Julia Efremova, never heard of her. |
By:
By:
They know Sori is a big star. They put her in that Gael & friends match.
By:
easy nights work for Cirstea, should have known with Fritz, typical American male player on clay, hopeless, though I only had him making R3 anyway. Novak wasting precious energy with GMP if he thinks he actually has a chance of going all the way.
By:
Fils out!
Dude has some really bad luck, but comes across as wise with his choices lately. |
By:
How high did Joker go in-running ? I had a feeling the servebot might take the first bet, prob on a TB, but wasn't around for the match so couldn't take advantage.
By:
I think 1.8ish just after losing the first set. Then it shortened quickly. Market was in love with GMP that entire 1st set before switching to Novak early in the 2nd.
By:
Svitolina vs Bondar again!
By:
Fils withdrew over 2 days ago, I was looking at the outrights when noticing.
By:
Queen Zheng taking a T.M.T.O
By:
By:
Big Stan out, from winner to out in first round again, he is 87 years old though.
Elina in Big trouble, 3rd set tie breaker with Bondar Beach. |
By:
Urhobo 3.4 against Katie B looks tasty.
By:
ruud in trouble
By:
Thankfully for him Safiulin is a complete moron, calling for the trainer at 5*-0 up in the 4th giving Ruud both time to recover as well as hope.
Odds also went 1.10 to 1.7 for this **** decision. |

Odds also went 1.10 to 1.7 for this **** decision. Maybe he needed the trainer mr spiderman? |
By:
Then you wait for 3 games or so and only does so if the opponent shows signs of life. It's a complete amateur move to call the trainer when the opponent is struggling badly.

With six R1 exits at the French Open in 9 years, it amazes me Danill is sub 1.1 v anyone, he's in trouble v Walton here, could be bagelled as well. 5-0 down third set, 1-1.
