Unbelievable strength of character from Sinner, how may times in recent decades have players won a slam in their first final, let alone from 3-6, 1-5 down? Medvedev weakened for sure, but still a great effort from the talented and likeable Italian. First of many? I wouldn't bet against it!

Daniil was lights out for the majority of the first 2 sets, then weakened as Sinner strengthened. Looked very likely the minute Sinner started getting close a big comeback in the 2nd set.

"Clapped out Novak with a wrist injury" was still in the semi's and he's won slams before carrying injuries, as have many players. "Mental midget" Medvedev has still made 6 slam finals and won US Open vs Djokovic, so a little harsh in that assessment. Perhaps unsurprisingly after his 5 set marathons, he got tired. It happens.

Sinner was clearly in Novak's rear view mirror all the way through a very consistent late-2023. He has also clearly been in Novak's mind as his most pressing threat for a time now as evidenced from recent interviews and pressers. Novak's dedication and willingness to go the extra mile prepping matches in his late 30s is unprecedented but the incredible run of slam wins continuing was reliant on the other horses in the race continuing to 'know their place' and stay in formation.
Sinner was the irresistible force that ultimately overcame the immoveable object. |

Djoko has often not been anywhere close to his best, or fully fit, or appeared to be out of sorts in early rounds and won slams numerous times. Sinner light years behind what we've been used to? Yeah, he hasn't won 20+ slams and probably won't get close to that, so what? Who cares about the level of the last 15 years, or the 15 years before that, or the level of the next 15 years? He won, he'll win again. The record books won't show "cheap slam" but you have your own opinion, fair enough!

Sinner is a generational talent. For sure a fully in form Novak and I think he topples but this is tennis! Great winner I believe.
